They're famous bands' music (RHCP, Tool, Metallica etc) done in a classical way.
I'm totally loving Metallica's Master of Puppets done with strings. They even have Baroque versions of Tool songs. Newer bands are in there too, like the Killers, Fall Out Boy, and Coldplay.
Very different and very interesting. Check them out.
I'm diggin a group called Nutley Brass right now, not string quartet but similar idea. They are all brass instruments doin tribute to bands like the ramones and the misfits. It's actually quite evil.

My father teaches the double bass @ a university & he would die for some of these... I think I'll get the System of a Down for myself and ship something back home as well.

I'm definitely going to check that out...I'm a huge fan of horns.}:D
Thanks for the heads up. I'm just so sick of music these days and this is something completely different to listen to!

Check out Apocalyptica's covers of Metallica. They're a Finnish cello quartet and I swear their cover of "Nothing Else Matters" is better than the original.
The Kronos Quartet's version of "Purple Haze"--recorded wayyy back when--also is worth a listen.
I think there's also a bluegrass album of Metallica covers, which is more weird than enjoyable.

Funny that you mention them. I was just listening to "Bittersweet" by Apocalyptica/HIM/The Rasmus!
Love them but didn't know about the Metallica covers. Thanks!

So far Ive seen a bluegrass tribute to everyone from blink 182 to the ramones, I'm scared to listen to any of them for some reason, lol.

The Apocalyptica Album is called
Apocalyptical: Plays Metallica by 4 cellos
It's interestingly evil and cool.

IDK, that old Hayseed Dixie thing a few years back was hysterical at first, but got old real quick.
