Cinco de Mayo, bagpipes, muscle cars, and a marching band parade.
So I'm totally zonked out and in a nice REM state of sleep when I start hearing sirens. Like intermittently, Whooop Whoop ..stop... Whoop Whoop...etc... Then I start hearing bagpipes in the distance, and they're getting closer. I wipe the sleep from my eye, emerge from the cocoon that is my bed, and start to realize there's a parade. And they're marching right down my street. So i go outside to see the festivities. And the local business people are coming up to us handing us cards and candy then continuing on with the rest of the parade. Then the local high school band came by and did their jazzy little number. Oh, and the floats were the neighbors riding by in their garaged muscle cars while waving. Heh :-)
But anyhoo, I'm kind of amusing myself with the irony of it being Cinco de Mayo, and their playing bagpipes. But hey, it's all in the name of festivity, so what the heck, why not? :-)

Hey with enough cerveza it all makes sense. I love America when I see stuff like that.;D
Re: Cinco de Mayo, bagpipes, muscle cars, and a marching band parade.
Actually, there is Irish (Celtic) history in Mexico.
Saint Patrick's Batallion was made up of Irish & other immigrants that deserted from the American military to fight alongside the Mexican army during the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. This was during a point in history where the Irish immigrants to America were reviled and unwelcome, so "desertion" was not even the kind of act we consider it to be now.

That was a pretty good read about the San Patricios, thank you Maxine. You learn something new every day.
I was just out and about earlier and already people are drinking a lot of beer and making a lot of sense :-)
