Conflicting vitamin advise before surgery
I have been sent info from two diff surgeons for my rhinoplasty. I have my consult on 9th july. Anyway in the information packs that they sent me one surgeon says to take a multivitamin right up until the surgery while the other surgeon says if taking any multivitamins stop taking them a few weeks before the surgery.
I don't get it?
Actually I dont even get why or how taking vitamins has anything to do with the outcome of rhinoplasty.
Re: Conflicting vitamin advise before surgery
I know that vitamin E and garlic supplements can inhibit clotting factors, making you more likely to bleed excessively during surgery. Why don't you ask the surgeons for their vitamin rationale?
Re: Conflicting vitamin advise before surgery
^^ I was hoping u would respond hehe.
I will ask at my consult, it's not til 9th july and im taking multivitamins right now. I wish i didnt have to wait so long for the consult.
I know with rhinoplasty there is a big issue of swelling. In fact apparently the entire swelling lasts about 1 year after surgery and I will have to avoid things that could cause more swelling. The bleeding comes into it too.
Re: Conflicting vitamin advise before surgery
Did they specify which vitamins? Is it vitamins or minerals too?
Some may aid in healing and Docs already mentioned the vitamin E thing so could it be that theyre suggesting taking some right on up until the surgery and suggesting that others you stop?
Re: Conflicting vitamin advise before surgery
I am having my rhinoplasty in 6 days!!!
My surgeon told me to stop taking all vitamins, herbal supplements, and pain killers (except tylenol) 2 weeks before the surgery date because they can thin your blood.
(I am allowed to keep taking my Yasmin birthcontrol pill)
