My ex boyfriend's grandma had (silicone) implants over 20 years ago and they look fine, no totally perky but not down to her waist like my grandma's!
They will get weaker and will usually have to be replaced about every 10-15 years.
haha well but I never saw her nekkid, so I don't really know
Yep, the silicone shell only lasts so long, can only take so much wear and tear before it deflates. The standard time for that is 10-15 years. Your ex's grandma is very lucky to have had hers for so long! I'm starting to put money in a fund for 10 years from now when I need a new set.
You get a lot of different answers to this question. Ive gathered that they can last forever, but generally dont, due to complications somewhere down the line.
Lola, where did you hear that they deflate after awhile?! Thats insane! I sure hope that is a rare occurrence.
My sister has had her salines for close to 10 years now, no problems.
Ive had my silicones for 2 1/2 years, some mild CC is the only problem Ive encountered.
All docs will tell you to replace them in 10 years because shell weakens over time increasing the likelihood of a leak. Some women may have theirs for 20 years and never get a leak, and if they are saline I really don't see any problem with that. With saline, if there's a leak you'll notice. The saline is harmless, but having a deflated boob is what a replacement would have helped avoid. Silicone on the other hand, doesn't show any signs when they leak, and the gel isnt broken down by the body. Which is why it is that much more important to get the silicones replaced every 10 years BEFORE they spring a leak.
my mom's had hers for about 10 years I think, maybe more. She's never had any further surgeries, although I imagine that she'll need to at some point in the next 10 years.
My mother got them when she was 30 and she is now 51 and has never had any problems with them and they still look good.
What type of implants are they? 20 years ago some implants I think were still made with thicker shells, so 20 years on some women are still lucky enough to have intact implants and no problems.
Hows the ladies over-all health? Most women who have a ruptured silicone implant are not aware of it, but if there are no unusual health problems then good.
Some of these implants are very fragile though with age and if the implants are silicone mabe that might be a concern.
Some implants look good over the course of time and some dont at the end of the day. Ive seen great looking boob jobs gradually turn into awful looking ones over the course of 2-5 years, whilst others dont so IMO theres no set rule.
I got my boobs done two years ago, they seem sooo much smaller than they were the first year. When they drop they look more natural though. Does anyone else feel the same way about their implants? I have seen some HORRIBLE old looking boob jobs it makes me want to replace mine sooner than 10 years, but these girls had silicone. I want my entire breast tissue removed next time around has anyone had that operation?
^^^Saline implants apparently leek about a teaspoon of fluid a year, if you have salines redhothoney maybe that helps explain?
I've never heard that saline implants gradually leak. I've thought mine were getting smaller over the years (I've had mine 6 years this coming June) but I've measured and the measurement was always the same, so they're not losing volume. They have dropped and shaped into a more and more natural position over time, though. I used to not have a fold between my breast and my chest, and now I have a small one, and they jiggle and bounce much more noticeably than they used to. All things considered, I think of these as positive ...er, developments, since a natural look is what I want.
At any rate, the person who said they were starting a Replacement Surgery savings fund had an excellent idea.
How about this for longevity? My grandma got implants sometime in the early 60s. I didn't even know they were available back then and by the time I heard this, she had old grandma boobies. I have no idea saline or silicone. Last year, she started having all kinds of excruciating chest pain. Once cardiac issues were ruled out, it was determined to be caused by her old breast implants. She had them removed, had a little lift for good measure, and voila! No more chest pain.
