Burlesque - Miss Berties Presents Lessons in Love
For those who are on my friends list @ www.goldcoastgirl.info -- I have uploaded the photos there for your enjoyment.
I will add to this thread when I have other photos from the event to share.
Please excuse the quality of some of the photos as they are 'action' shots and thus the reason why it is 'smudged' in a way. Also, two of the three hoops I used were thanks to Jow (aussiepunkshocker)!! Thank you Jow!
I did two acts, I only currently have photos of me doing my first hula-hooping one song act. I don't own an army outfit and thus the nurse is the closest thing I picked to wear for this act. Song used: Boogey Woogey Bugle Boy (Bette Midler).

When hula hoops decide to work against you (when they go bad) :D:P

I was meant to hula hoop with three hoops for a minute or two yet they decided to not work with me this one time ... when every other time I practiced it worked. LOL!

The Red Dress I have been waiting many many years to use properly! Now I can ;D
I did a three song set with the dress being worn for the first song - Hey Big Spender (Peggy Lee). Yes I need to invest in more rhinestones and add some 'sparkle' or something to the dress.... or at least 'poof' up my hair?

“Miss Bertie Presents… A Lesson in Love”
Thursday 25 May - CBD Gallery
This cabaret was a very entertaining experience, and the second time I have seen Miss Bertie perform. The first time was as part of the La Lola Salon at St Magdalene’s, so I was already acquainted with her dancing and singing. So it was a novelty seeing her perform outstanding, refreshing new comedy in her very own stage show “A Lesson in Love”.
Miss Bertie as MC was especially funny, playing the role of a dumpy German boy Hansel who plays the Ukulele, it was so wrong it was right! Even with her hat falling off at the wrong times, and music not playing when required, she remained perfectly poised and in control of the situation. This confidence was quite impressive for it came across so effortlessly, obviously from her many years of prior performance experience; she later performed a sensual parasol dance routine.
Though the highlight was her “Lessons in Love” as a school teacher giving what appeared to be a sex education class to Grade Four students (the best comedy is always based on real life experience). Miss Bertie’s delivery was deadpan seriousness with a pronounced Australian drawl, and a gut-wrenching twist of bitterness and disappointment, combined with audience participation. Here in lies the strength of the show, with its diversity of characterization and performances.
Miss Bertie was superbly supported by a dynamic pair of lovely ladies also graduates of La Lola Salon, including Lady Vee who is a pocket dynamo with heaps of energy and spark, combined with a wonderful, mischievous twinkle in her eyes. Her solo performance with the hula hoops harkens back to the days of the 60’s and Go-Go dancers of that era.
Followed by the one and only Miss Kitty Conquest. Described as the glitter princess of the Goth scene, with her burlesque stage performance “Dark Alice” to the song White Rabbit. I found myself biting back the urge to shout out “Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!” Miss Kitty Conquest AKA Lisa Lamb is a very funny lady, and I have seen her perform on stage as a comedian many times in the various comedy clubs, and like Miss Bertie and Lady Vee she is a performer who also likes to explore new mediums and push new professional boundaries.
Their joint rendition of “Fever”, with Miss Bertie doing vocals, Miss Kitty Conquest on backing vocals and Lady Vee dancing in support was a special treat. The two petite ladies, nicely balance the 6 foot tall Miss Bertie…. So what do you get when you put these three ladies together? A great cabaret show called “Lessons in Love”. I look forward to their future performances.
