Does this make me a bitch?
So, I work at this shitty little club with no customers. It sucks, but all the girls are really sweet, we all get along very well. So when it gets dead we all sit around in the changing room talking about what other clubs we could go to if any of us had a car.
Next Tuesday I want to go do the amateur night at Centerfold's, (I'm not sure if I'd want to work there, but it's $1000 1st prize and $700 runner up. Not bad!) I mentioned this and a bunch of the girls said they want to come too. I asked if anyone thought that would cause a little tension between us friends - all competing for the same prize, you know? They said no, because whoever wins we'll split it 5 ways. Um... oh... is that the plan now?
I'm sorry, I know I sound like an asshole - but if I win I'm not leaving with $200! And what if someone hotter than all of us shows up and wins first, do we split the $700 5 ways too? I'm sorry to be greedy, because I DO really like these girls, but they're not like my best buddies or anything. If it was a group of my best friends than yeah, we could do it for fun. But I've known some of them for less than a month, and this is for work.
The other side to it is honestly, if it really is only the five of us and no one else shows up - I'm totally going to win. Sorry, but these girls just aren't very good, some of them realllly don't have um "stripper bodies" and they're very new to dancing. I don't really think going to amateur night, kicking their asses, and keeping all the money is what a good friend would do. I really want to go next week though because I already got the time off. What do I do now?

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Yes and no.
I can totally understand not wanting to split prize money with anyone else but don't be so sure that you're gonna win, even if you are just competing against your friends. I've seen the newest newbie beat the ubber stripper plenty of times.
Tell them you really need the $$ and don't want to split or go on another night when thy're not going.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Well, no it doesn't make you a bitch necessarily. What do you think your chances of winning are? It's pretty hard to say whether or not you will win the amatuer night contest.
I think you are also adding up the odds wrong. it would be 5 out of $1700 = $340 each girl.
But, if you really think you're more likely to win 1st or runner up, then I suggest you tell your friends to count you out of the "drawing" But do realize that if you do decide to go this route, and you DO NOT PLACE at all, then dont' be expecting a chunk of change from out of the winnings pot.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Stop working at a shitty club where there is no customers and tell those girls theres no way you're going to split it! That is super bizarre.
-
Re: Does this make me a bitch?
I wouldn't share either. Dancing isn't a socialist operation. However, I would let them know upfront that you don't plan to divvy up the winnings if you get it. And, of course, you can't expect them to share should one of them win. Every woman for herself, that's how it should be.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Hrm..tis a nasty little situation, but it was rude of them to assume. I would say to talk to them, as nicely as possible and explain that its work for you, and that you need the money. If one of them wins theres no reason they cant split the pot, but you'd rather try it on your own. Or say you don't feel right about rigging it that way and while you wish them luck that you'd rather not be a part of it. Its all about how you say it, if their good friends they should understand as long as you arent rude when you explain your feelings. Best of luck hon, I hope it works out for you!

Agreed! If you really need the money that bad, you'd find a much better club to work at.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Wait, so YOU told THEM about it and then THEY decided that the money will be split without even talking to you about it? You don't sound like a bitch, you sound like this stuff is your job and you'd rather take the chance... and you should tell them that exactly.

nice. yes, no way in hell i'd split it but i wouldn't say it before bec (and this makes me greedy/bitchy) if you dont win and they do you can still get something for it. heh. i wish you good luck. and yea, get anew freakin club!!!!

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
I would have stated it right away, AS SOON as I heard what their plan is. So if they are still planning to go, tell them upfront. Don't split the money if you lose, and hoard it all if you win, that's a crap move. Of course, planning to split the money is equally retarded. Just tell them ASAP, just like above poster said, "this isn't a socialist operation!"

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
what about just telling them that you were hoping for a night away from your club? i'm not a dancer, but i've had coworkers try to invite themselves along on my weekend plans, and they're usually cool with me telling them something to the effect of 'no offence, but i work with you guys every day...i need some time away from you!"
-
Re: Does this make me a bitch?
You should have spoke up right away and said that you think that the girl that wins should get all the money. Just tell them the time that you all go 2 amatuer night. It doesnt make you a bitch if your trying to claim something that you worked for and is clearly yours, period

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
^^ i would NOT wait til you get there to tell them. tell them beforehand.
-
Re: Does this make me a bitch?
I vwouldnt split it either. Just tell them straight out... you need the money and thats why you decided to do it in the first place. You told them about it and they decided to tag along. However, make it clear before you go, otherwise that could call for an ugly mess if you DO win. :)

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Why are u competing in an amature night if u already dance? Am I missing something here?
-
Re: Does this make me a bitch?
^^^^Amateur nights, half the time, are full of already dancers. Some dancers make their living off of traveling from one amateur night to the next, because the prize money in some clubs is alot.
As for OP - It doesn't make you a bitch. But if it was your idea about the amatueur night you should have shushed bout it in the first place! But anyway - its bullshit to split the money. Just be REALLY nice about it and tell them honestly.
-
Re: Does this make me a bitch?
If you're worried about hurting their feelings just try to word it as one poster put it above:
"I think that the girl that wins should keep the entire prize." Instead of "I don't want to split the money if I win."
To me that kind of makes it seem more like good natured competition between friends (even though it's not).
My first thought was to just go on another night alone. It is kind of dumb to bring competition with you if your intent is to win.

Oh no way! That's a bit unfair to true amateurs. Oh well.;)

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Is it really necessary to enter this contest with your friends? It is a competition, after all. If I were you, I'd go there by myself and leave with all the money.

What I've heard from the other girls is that if you want to work at some clubs like Centerfolds, they just tell you to come in on amateur night - and that most girls that win get jobs there. That might be why they're full of dancers, I don't know if that's the case everywhere though.

I just say I have a good chance because my club will hire anyone, especially if they're friends with a dancer already. So, some of these girls are pretty bad. They trip over themselves all the time, they're funny though, good people. I just don't see anyone taking them very seriously.
You love my math skills, right? :D Hee hee.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
^^ Well darliln' in that case, I think you should tell your friends a) you wanna try it out alone or b) every woman for themselves..
Hell, for all we know, they were just all talk. If you don't bring up the subject again, I'm pretty sure they may even forget about the amatuer night altogether.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
Skip the contest entirely. This has the makings of being huge drama. Work at your home club the night of the contest, instead, since you KNOW that 4 of the regular dancers will be gone, for sure.
If the other girls ask you why, just say that you can't take a chance that you might lose a night's work. Contests are expensive to participate in. The club will likely charge a fee to participate, and all the staff of the club will have their hand out to the winner for a big tip out. So the girls that get the $200 pay off walk out with $200, but the actual winner will walk out with very little, if anything.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
I say either be willing to split the money, or don't go. You're not being a bitch by not wanting to split it, in my opinion, but if they all want to do it and you say no, it will seem like you are being a bitch. It's not worth it to get on everybody's bad side to maybe win some money. Plus, you will feel like an ass if you loose after making a big stink about not wanting to split it, lol.
Plus you could be the hottest and the best dancer and not win, you never know for sure. I do Hawaiin Tropic Pagents, and a lot of the girls do more than one a year... so the same five of us are in the contests together, and sometimes I'll win 1st, sometimes I won't even place. Against the same girls. You just never know.

Re: Does this make me a bitch?
^^Yeah I think keeping peace at your regular club is more wise than pissing everyone off without meaning to. That's not to say you don't have every right to that money if you win and it's stupid politics, but you could make that money from the amateur contest or not have your regular earnings from your home club disturbed because of the drama that might ensue. Especially if you are hotter and/or a good dancer, it will certainly raise some petty jealousy.
If you are set on doing the contest, then wait until another night when no one from your club knows about it. It's not like a one time thing is it? Most amateur contests are once a week or twice a month.
