Oregon smoking ban passes
I was really shocked when I moved to Portland in 2006 and found they still allowed smoking in bars. Kind of pleased, but a bit shocked nonetheless considering what a health-conscious kind of place it is.
No more! In 2009 it's all banned. I think it's a good thing, ultimately.
Oregon Makes Bars Smoke-Free
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
Thanks for posting this. I am very pleased.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
Same thing is happening here in 2009, I can't wait!
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
Tennessee seriously needs to go smoke free. I get so happy when I go places in other states and nobody is allowed to smoke.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
2009 is too far away!!!! I probably won't even be dancing then. But it is still very good news :)
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
I really wish it was sooner than 2009. I hate hate hate having dudes sitting around the stage blowing cigarette smoke my way.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
The wait wouldn't be so bad if all the clubs had filters like at Mary's. I don't even smell the smoke when I walk into that club, and I don't smell it on my clothes when I leave.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
welcome to the world of philly, nyc, and nj, among other places. wheee! yay for susan's lungs, and all of you other PDX gals.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
$$$$$$$Cha-Ching!!
My husband owns a business that builds decks and other outdoor structures. Whoo-Hoo! Thank you Oregon, we just hit the lottery!!:highfive::dance:
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats too far away, but I WAS hoping.l.... maybe they'll start phasing it out early? yeah right, but a girl can hope...
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
This was the big topic in the DR last night.;D 2009 will definitely give the clubs time to set aside space for the smokers. We have an outdoor area that just has picnic tables and umbrellas right now, but I suspect that my boss will install an awning and outdoor heaters before the ban goes into effect, to accomodate the smokers. The "outdoor heater" companies will prob bank on this too along with the deck contractors. All I can say is "FUCK YEAH!" No more bronchitis for meeeee!
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
Bars have been smoke free in PR since last March and honestly it has made a big difference.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
hmm its banned here to where i live...it got banned last nov.
i personally think its annoying. i mean im an "occasinal" smoker...i dont smoke very often but..
i mean i understand smoking bans in resturants or other public places because of kids and stuff...
but i mean in bars? we're all adults here! besides, i think more people smoke than people who dont who come into the bars. i mean drinking and smoking go hand in hand!
when smoking was allowed, mostly EVERYONE smoked cigarettes.
i mean it has its pros...i mean yeah my hair doesnt smell like fucking smoke when i come back home, and the ban has helped me really cut down on cigarettes.
but its so annoying when i just want to light up a cigarette at a booth and i CANT.
but i suppose the ban isnt so bad...its annoying when some clubs dont have a "designated" smoking area outside of the club. if they had some kind of patio or outside thingy for smoking, it would be okay.
the last club i worked at, had NO specail smoking area..not even for the dancers. if any of the dancers wanted to have a smoke, they had to put their NORMAL clothes back on to go outside of the club and smoke...aROUND THE CUSTOMERS! i mean i dont want no customers seeing me dressed up in my sweats n shit!
the club i work at now though has an outside area for the dancers to smoke at...where the customers cant see us. and the customers have a little area otuside the club to smoke - thats good.
here, you are not allowed to smoke within 20 feet of a building...pff. you hyave to be farther than 20 feet . i mean shit, i cant eyeball 20 feet. ha.
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
i think a large part of the "more smokers than non" in clubs has to do with non smokers not wanting the strong smoke smell to give them away. my boyfriend ALWAYS knows when I've worked the night before, because even after showering, my hair smells like smoke. Obviously shorter guy hair doesnt trap it like this, but it still lingers on clothes. If clubs are going to tell us not to use glitter, excessive perfume, etc. so that we don't leave a lot of giveaways as to where he's been, I think the smoke smell is a HUGE one...
I think once this goes into effect, we'll see a LOT more non smokers going out.. I'm looking forward to it!
Re: Oregon smoking ban passes
I'm all for these smoking bans. I know there are times that my buddies and I haven't gone into a club/bar just because it was riddled with smoke. Now in the locations smoking is banned, we are more likely to head in.
