New Job
The last three times I've worked it's been sort of bad. I suddenly went from definitely being busy every night to making 150 dollars last night. It wasn't so much that it was me making that amount (I can deal with some nights like that sparingly) but that I started feeling crazy insecure feelings. Like I was fat and not really a good stripper and people probably wonder why I am even a stripper to begin with. I shouldn't be upset about it...but it freaks me out when it's so hard for me to make money and other girls are doing much better. I was looking at myself and thinking very negative thoughts. I don't want to give up on it entirely. But I think I need something else to put things back into perspective.
I got hired for a 9-5 job where I get paid $15 an hour. It might be nice for a change and if I don't like it I can always quit.
...but my question is: Is $15/hour good pay for a non-dancing job (working a dispatch)? Without a vacation that's about 27k a year and that number makes me cry but I think it might be good for a while just to have a steady income in what it a frustratingly slow time or personal slump (might be combination of both). There are some other perks to the job. It's laid back. I'm already hired and they will train me. The hours aren't that bad. I'm sort of tired of coming home at 3 am. I also feel like I have been drinking too much after I get discouraged and depressed at work. I keep trying to be disciplined by going to work but something has gone wrong lately and it's fucking with my self-esteem.
Anyway yeah? $15/hour? (My cost of living is pretty low. I pay $325/month in rent.)

Re: New Job
WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT JOB?! I've been unemployed in portland for about 4 months if you lump it together, unable to get hired for even a minimum wage job... and the only jobs I've been able to get hired for have paid 8-10$ an hour!
So its not GREAT pay, compared to what you're used to, but it could be a lot worse.
maybe the other job will be good though, show you how frustratingly slow "normal" jobs are to make and earn money, and help you get your drive back...

Re: New Job
Do you have a college degree? If not, that's great money.
I use to have nights like that too. I couldn't justify dancing because I wasn't making enough money. Then I would feel like there was something "wrong" with me.

Re: New Job
I got it through a friend of a friend. Does anyone have any opinions? Would you work for $15/hr?

Re: New Job
Right now I work for about that. I'm a delivery driver and make minimum wage + tips, so i average about $15 to my highest so far after 2 months working being $22/hour. I consider this good, seeing as I have no degree.
Green is right, without a degree that is good money, especially when your cost of living is low.

Re: New Job
Most of my friends WITH degrees make less than $15/hour (in Portland).

Re: New Job
yes, $15/hour is good if you don't hate the job, it's giving you good experience that will help you get a better job, and you don't have a degree. Especially if you have health care--then its totally worth it!

Re: New Job
I just started a job for $14 an hour. If you don't like it you can always leave. If you need extra money you can always go dance. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck!
