Please tell me this is made up...
McDonalds, Chuck E Cheese, Discovery Zone... All places with
ball pits in the children's play area. One of my sons lost his watch,
and was very upset. We dug and dug in those balls, trying to find his
watch.
Instead, we found vomit, food, feces, and other stuff I do not want to discuss.
I went to the manager and raised hell. Come to find out, the ball pit is only cleaned out once a month. I have doubts that it is even done that often.. My kids will never play in another ball pit.
Some of you might not be parents, but you may have nieces, nephews, grandchildren, or friends with children.
This will pertain to you too. As I read the following, my heart sank. I urge each and every one of you to pass this on to as many people as you can. I cannot stress how important this is!
Hi. My name is Lauren Archer, my son Kevin and I lived in Midland , TN.
On October 2nd, 1999 I took my only son to McDonald's for his 3rd birthday.
After he finished lunch, I allowed him to play in the ball pit. When he started whining later on, I asked him what was wrong, he pointed to the back of his pull-up and simply said 'Mommy, it hurts.' I couldn't find anything wrong with him at that time. I bathed him when we got home, and it was at that point when I found a welt on his left buttock.
Upon investigating, it seemed as if there was something like a splinter under the welt. I made an appointment to see the doctor the next day, but soon he started vomiting and shaking, then his eyes rolled back into his head. From there, we went to the emergency room. He died later that night. It turned out that the welt on his buttock was the tip of a hypodermic needle that had broken off inside.
The autopsy revealed that Kevin had died from a heroine overdose. The next
week, the police removed the balls from the ball pit. There was rotten food,
several hypodermic needles: some full, some used; knives, half-eaten candy, diapers, feces, and the stench of urine.
(You can find the article on Kevin Archer in the October 10,1999 issue of
the Midland Chronicle.)
Don't think it's just McDonald's either. A little boy had been playing
in a ball pit @ a Burger King & started complaining of his legs hurting.
He later died too. He was found to have snake bites all over
his legs & buttocks. When they cleaned the ball pit they found that
there was a copperhead's nest in the ball pit. He had suffered numerous bites from a very poisonous snake.
Repost this if it scares the crap out of you!! Repost this if
you care about kids!! Please forward this to all loving mothers,
fathers and anyone who loves and cares for children!! What has this world
come to?? If a child is not safe in a child's play area then where??
AND FYI:
In Florida and other places on the East Coast a group of people are putting HIV/AIDS infected and filled needles underneath gas pump handles, so when someone reaches to pick it up and put gas in their car, they get stabbed with it. 16 people have been a victim of this crime so far and 10 tested HIV positive.

Re: Please tell me this is made up...
My guess is highly unlikely and just another chain letter.
The date is how old and I don't even remember anything in the form of lawsuits. If people sued them over the coffee being "too hot" then they'd have put up a firestorm for this shit.
Are we really all that gullible for anything we read in print?
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
fake, but still, i wouldnt doubt theres old food and pee pee down in them thar pits......
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
Urban legend. Been circulating for years...not true
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
I agree with IBI; I still wouldn't doubt there all kinds of nasty shit in those ball pits.
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
Um shit. In the second Snopes article it does say that their has been copycats of the needle at the gaspump scenario which was most recently reported in TUCSON, ARIZONA in March 2007!! Ahhhh!
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
the kevin archer story is an urban legend but those ball pits are still nasty, nasty, nasty and it's probably better to just keep your child out of them.
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
I thought it was a myth, thanks for confirming that!
I still agree with IBI and LSM that those pits are nasty and I wouldn't doubt for a minute that there could be urine, food and all sorts in there!
I definitely wont be letting my littlies play in those
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
Yeah, as soon as I saw this I thought "Let me check Snopes for this" but Paige beat me to it.
Having said that...I was at my nephew's b-day party a few years ago at Chuck E Cheese, and the kids all came out of the gerbil-maze of tubes and said it smelled like pee in there...I wouldn't let a child play in that crap...all manner of disgusting stuff and a lot of parents couldn't care less what their kids do to it.
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
Well to leave some fear out there this is a true story. At the steakhouse where they drop the peanut shells on the floor, i think lonestar steakhouse or something like that, my friend's grandfather slipped on some and died. (He was very old)
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
Yea this is old. Been circulating the net for a while.
Still wouldn't let my son play in that shit though.

I do not understand quite how this relates?
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
It's sad that children can't enjoy simple pleasures anymore without some psycho or moron interfering with it. I mean what business does someone have throwing their dirty needles in a place that innocent children can be hurt. I feel the same way about Trick or Treating at Halloween. When I was child we didn't have worry about having our candy x-rayed or examined for objects. Geezz, this pisses me off.
Re: Please tell me this is made up...
K, I was glad Paige posted the Snopes thing.... Buuuuuut,
I had the lucky chance (MAJOR sarcasm) to sit inside a chucky cheese's for a day. I watched, and they never, ever cleaned any of the playground equipment. None of it.
one day doesn't seem like a big deal, but all those kids! From open to close! And teenagers (they were the worst!) It was nasty. I'll never take my kiddo to one of those places, I might as well just roll him around around a nice moist bed of staph!
Blech!

Haha, I used to clean those tunnels (worked at CEC when I was young) and I never found pee in ours. They got disinfected every night, so I guess it depends on the location. All I ever found in there was candy wrappers and fingerprints::)

Go to a training store if you want to take your kids there. They seem to have higher standards. Maybe that's why ours was so different. We kept things really clean and everything was inspected at night for dust, fingerprints, etc. We couldn't leave that place until it was spotless!!
Maybe you all have just seen crappy CECs. /:O
Oh... and we never had a ball pit.... period.
