selling to the subconscious
So I just finished this article in the New York Times about influencing the subconscious mind and I couldn't help but relate it to selling dances at work. I'm having trouble thinking of cool ideas though and wondering if any of you will become inspired.
The examples given were pretty cool, here are a few I liked:
Two groups were assembled to play an investment game with one another, one group played at a large table with a briefcase and legal pad on it and the second group played at an identical table with a backpack on it. The group with the briefcase close by was much stingier with their money.
In 2005 psychologists had volunteers fill out a questionnaire. Hidden in the room would sometimes be a bucket of water with citrus-scented cleaning fluid, giving of a faint odor. After filling out the questionnaire they'd be given a snack of crackers. The people who ate when there was the cleaning scent around were 3 times as likely to clean up after themselves.
One last one;
People who ran to their cars were then more likely to speed away than people who walked.
Anyway, my mind just got working about how to get customers into a spend, spend, spend mood. How to get them to open their wallet so they keep opening it, or to use my appearance or smell to manipulate them (that sounded bad). I know we all do this already, simply by smiling and undressing, but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?

Re: selling to the subconscious
Hey, watch this guy on the SCI FI channel (Mind Control)...
He is a psycologist and uses extreme acts of persuasion to get people to literally hand over their wallets and keys to their house. Total strangers.
There are no magic tricks or actors.
This guy even paid for a $4,000 dollar ring with blank sheets of MONEY.
It worked a little something like this...
Build a small repore, act casual...
When the guy readys the ring the guy starts to tell a story about his brother telling him to take the subway...
When he's at the point to hand over the blank paper, the story of the subway comes to...
"My brother said not to worry..."
*hands over the paper money*
"Just take it! Its fine! Take it..." (This is in reference to the story and the brother telling him to TAKE the subway, cause its safe)
And the words work on the subconsious of the cashier, he takes the blank paper without thinking anything of it.
In another case, a cashier gave the guy CHANGE for his paper money.
A lot of it has to do with uber confidence, and setting the scene for "readiness" to be in the mind set of getting what you want.

Re: selling to the subconscious
But in some of these instances, this guy got them to hand over their wallet in like... two minutes. Its pretty amazing.
How I might interpret this for the club...
Gut sits down, you tease and entice like usual... Then make up some story like this.
"Have you been to Brazil? Myself, and three of my friends are going. Its going to be SO exciting... I like having fun with new people in new places. I hear Brazil is beautiful, exciting, the women are hot... I should go shouldnt I? I really should go!"
Lets say customer is sold on the idea of going to "Brazil" and having fun. Especially since the friends you mentioned are so hot. "Yeah, you should go." he says...
Then he may tell you a story about the time he did something fun... but I might break in before that and say,"Have you been to the backroom? I give the best dance there... ya know, everyone is watching us here. Lets go!"
Hes already in the mindset or fantasy of GOING "somewhere". And how could you refuse "going" cause you set the stage up subconsiously that "going" is fun and exciting.
Im not sure if that will work... but thats what it seems to be when Derren Brown works his stuff.

I love NLP. I once read the entire works of Milton Erikson (the guy who invented it, back before it was even called NLP).

Re: selling to the subconscious
I watched a few of the videos and formulated some ideas. I am going to try this technique at work today. I'm excited! Thanks for posting this holiday.

Re: selling to the subconscious
Facinating post and topic. I find the whole SC scene one major mind f$%k on both sides. I sell for a living and I've been trained countless hours, and I always wonder if dancers realize that they're selling, too. Finding out a custie's hot button is the key, and then playing to it. A person can dumb it down to "hot girl that the guy wants" and that's true. But if a girl gets under my skin, hey, the wallet's open. Big time. It doesn't happen often, at least for me, but like I said, a shrewd dancer can find the keys to the kingdom. I honestly don't think most take the time to probe, but hey, I could be wrong on that, too. And frankly, some are hot enough or have the right moves onstage that they may not NEED to worry about this.
Just my 2 cents.....

Re: selling to the subconscious
What I used to do at work was, while having a convo with a custie, whenever he or we agreed on something Iv wave my hand casually to the right or left of me (wherever the dance area was) and say yes. Nice smile on face and nod of the head. Do this about 5/6 times then ask for a dance and wave your hand in that direction again.
Usualy I got a yes.
Make sure you move and concrete that yes by getting you both up and walking towards the dance area, before he gets his brain back, LOL
You can do the same thing with using a touch of his hand or his arm with your `Yes` word, but I found being touched made some men nervous.
Love Derren Brown ;)

Oh my word, that's so... genius!! He doesn't even know it! I might try but I'll feel guilty... }:D

Re: selling to the subconscious
Anyone else have any really good techniques that they use to influence the custie's subconscious?? I really like Jezzebelle's way of conditioning the "yes" response by waving towards the dance area... I've got to try that!

Re: selling to the subconscious
There's a scene on "The Sopranos" where an old woman who obviously used to be a working girl is talking to a senile Corrado Soprano- she pretends to know him, flatters him, and so on.....y'all should look for this scene on YouTube or Netflix b/c the woman's hustle is so tight/spot-on.
So 1) rapport building 2) make him feel good. 3) build confidence in you and what you offer.
One subconscious way to "sell" your customer on you is using YOUR body language to re-enforce your message. Humans don't think about it but we constantly pick up tiny body language cues from other people and assimilate them into our perception of people. So use your posture and movements to show the customer- "Hey, I like you. You're fun. You make me feel good. You are very interesting!" Look at it this way- no one can resist the cuteness of a dog wagging its tail, looking for attention, for petting. Humans are mammals and they want to feel needed, loved and warm.
I can add more to this thread when I think more about approaches that worked for me....I also need to add....YOU the stripper have to get good at "seeing what your customer sees." Most men have a "type" they are attracted to ...once you identify that type, wallets open. Being able to read people will save you tons of time and energy in the strip club.

Re: selling to the subconscious
I think this stuff is fascinating. Ever watch that show "Brain Games?" One time, the host declared that he could get someone to pay more than $20 for an ordinary $20 bill. Sounds ridiculous, right? Well he set up a live auction for the $20. I think he started the bidding around $1. The rule was that if you end the auction as the HIGHEST bidder, then you win the $20 bill. But, if you end the auction as the SECOND highest bidder, you have to PAY $20. Just a couple minutes later, and the bid was going upwards of $25...
I read a book about NLP a while back, hoping to apply it to work. Didn't feel like I got much out of it though. If anyone has found one that's been helpful, I'd love suggestions. :)

Re: selling to the subconscious
OK easy subconscious tips-
* Grandma perfume- don't laugh, this really works. Wear a more classic perfume than a lot of the trendy ones that are around now. Scents with strong rose, gardenia or "floral" notes bring men back emotionally to youth & remind them of women they loved (girlfriends, aunts, mothers, grandmothers.) The perfume triggers strong emotional associations that are positive.
* P*ssy Power- Google old photos of airline stewardesses from the 1970s. Some of them wore go-go boots and tiny shorts (usually skirts but some airlines were more "modern".) The go-go boot's height boost happened to put the stewardess's crotch right at eye level of the (usual) businessman seated on the plane. Sneaky use of blatant sexuality to sell plane tickets- "Fly with us, our stewardesses are hot, with hot p*ssies. LOOK!" In short, wear "coochie cutter" boy shorts with some of your outfits and find sneaky ways to put your crotch near your customer without doing anything gross like bumping his face or sitting on his face. (Some guys are turned off by literal in-your-face p*ssy tricks.)
* Take washcloth baths to keep more of your phermones (body oil and sweat) on you. Having a healthy scent is something the customer picks up on without realizing it.
* Use positive langugage to hustle and sell dances. Keep conversations silly and sweet.

This's an old thread, but interesting. :)

Re: selling to the subconscious
Ok more random tips-
* wear "power colors"- wonder why the color royal blue is used in the new Viagra commericals? Blue is a typically popular color with men, and close to the color of the Viagra pills. The spokesmodel is a brunette (men associate dark haired dark eyed women with trustworthiness and steadiness.) These commercials use subconscious, subliminal messages to sell the viewer on a concern of his that rules his world (his ability to get hard and get off.)
Make your primary costume colors ones that flatter your look, but also colors that men favor- blue, red, black, burgundy. This helps men start getting visually comfortable with you while you are talking to them.
*nuzzle his hand with your lips- men like this feeling- it's a way to let him know how soft and kissable your lips are, without breaking club contact rules.

Re: selling to the subconscious
These are great!
Can anyone else actually confirm that the "yes" with the wave of the hand works?
I'm gonna try it. I've also read some other articles online, and try to keep those in mind while selling. This seems like a really underrated way to sell dances.

Re: selling to the subconscious
Oh before I forget, another classic- crossing & uncrossing your legs. There are hilarious gifs on the Internet of Sharon Stone's crotch scene in "Basic Instinct" where her uncrossed legs scene is repeated over and over- check out her expression and how smoothly she does it. Guys are pretty much powerless against the p*ssy. You don't have to show crotch, but you can (silently) keep reminding him of it and draw attention to it. Just tug on your skirt or bottoms like you are trying to stop it from riding up.
Also, learn how to "silently" take charge. Don't beat a guy over the head with your dominance. Assert it slowly and quietly. He came into the SC to have a hot woman lead him around. Find a way that works for him and do it for him.
