I quit drinking!!
Thats right I am not drinking for 30 days! I know it will be hard but I have been drinking ALOT lately. I don't like who I am when I am drunk. My dad is an alcoholic and I don't want to be like him. I have been drinking about 6 days a week to the point of being stupid!! I want to start taking care of my body. Also I want to feel better about myself. Alcohol depresses me. I am going to occupy myself by working more and working out.

Re: I quit drinking!!
Good luck! Remember, just plan to stay sober on a daily basis. Wake up in the morning and meditate, think about the day ahead. At the end of the day, do the same thing, and thank yourself, and whatever you believe in, for a happy.sober day.
Another thing that worked well for me was to sit down and REALLY figure out the things that triggered my desire to drink and use. THEN, create an action plan on how to get through the moments and stay sober.
Good luck, its tough!

Re: I quit drinking!!
I drink every time I work, and I'm just now starting to hate myself for that. Before it wasn't such a big deal, when I would work 2 or 3 (or less) nights per week. But right now I'm not in classes and I don't have another full time job, so I feel like there's no excuse not to work full time. But I know that continuing to drink 5-6 days a week is going to take a tremendous toll on my health over time. I know I need to stop, but I tried not to drink at work today (during a day and mid shift!) and failed. I just gave up and didn't care. I feel like in order to really quit drinking, I need to stop working at bars. I'm not saying the strip club environment makes me want to drink, or I'm drowning and numbing my pain while at work, but I had an excess issue with drinking long before I worked at a strip club (which is a bar). I never really came to terms with that drinking, or thought it was a problem, so I never really dealt with it. Either I've got to really suck it up and get some willpower or I should probably stop working at strip clubs, or any other environs where people pay for and encourage you to get drunk. Not that I'm blaming the patrons, but yeah. I get wasted at work, and it's my fault.
Sorry if that was TMI. I can relate. I'm going to keep trying, though. I just had this entire epiphany about this on Saturday.

Re: I quit drinking!!
Thank you for your support. Katrine you brought up a good point. To look at what made me want to drink on those days. I am trying to make a lifestyle change. I don't think I will be able to go the rest of my life without drinking but I really want to be in control of it...instead of it controling me! I am already doing better. I have gone 2 days. Usually its everyday... unless I have a horrible hangover that I can't drink ne more. =(

Re: I quit drinking!!
Alcohol depresses you because it is a depressant, it depresses your nervous system. You're making a conscious decision to quit drinking or cutting back. However, if you're an addict, then you may be in for a disappointment.
Maybe you had a bad day, you have a headache, you're bored, you're loaded with money, it's Friday night or your day off. Whatever the reason, you'll be vulnerable and drink again, and feel guilty afterwards for being so helpless.
Six days a week is not good, that much consumption per week should cause some physical dependence, hence producing withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal from alcohol can kill you. If you are familiar with Delirium Tremens or DT's, then you'll understand why it's life threatening. Having hallucinations, delusions, panic attacks, heart attacks, and seizures are never fun. Or developing many health problems such pancreitis and cirroshis.
Some questions that hospitals and clinics may ask to determine if you have a problem with alcohol are called the CAGE questions.
Have you tried to Cut back on you alcohol use and failed?
Do you become Annoyed when someone comments on your drinking habits?
Do you feel Guilt associated with your drinking?
Do you need an Eye opener when you wake up?
If you answer yes to one or more of these questions, it could be an indicator of a problem, but only could be. You have to consider the legal, family, health, social, financial and work problems that come along with drinking problems.
There is genetic evidence that alcoholism may run in families. So be acutely aware.
