male gynocologists and medical field choices
awhile ago a female friend and i had a discussion as to why a man would want to become a gynocologist. i hear many men joke about how they should have become one so that they could get paid to look at pussy all day but i can't imagine that doing so would even be sexy because they'd have to look at diseased vulvas and unsexy things like that.
my friend suspected that it was because some men admire the reproductive system and want to keep it healthy.
my dj for a time went to medical school. i asked him about this and he said that medical students have to choose to specialize in something, such as internal medicine, surgery, or just are fascinated by what a particular organ does.
i was inspired to write this post because a few weeks ago i took my mother in for a colonoscopy and was wondering why anyone would want to make a career out of looking up people's asses. my dj said, "well, there are a lot of interesting things up there."
what do you all have to say? i'm not a medical person at all.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
Any organ can be interesting. That's why there's doctors with so many different choices as to where they go.
One person's interest in the anus will make another go "Huh?"
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
I suppose when in medical school a particular area just takes their interest. They might take a subject and think it is very interesting.
I highly doubt any gyno's do what they do because they want to look at pussy. I mean it's not a very glamourous thing that they do.
Many are also obstriticians and gyno's and who wouldnt want to deliver babies? I mean Im not a kid person but witnessing that miracle would be amazing.

I agree with the above post.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
I'm sure there are many motives besides wanting to look at pussy all day. In fact, if I had to look at it all the time, like intensively while using my brain, I think I might become either overly critical or just plain sick of it.
If I became a doctor I would want to be a dermatologist. Think about it...no internal nastiness to deal with, nothing with skin is really so crucial that you are making life and death decisions or required to be on call (save for maybe skin cancer) and its highly paid. From med school friends I'm told derm residencies are one of the most sought after for this reason.
I'll have to ask them who wants to be a ob/gyn though. I actually prefer male ob/gyns sometimes because they are more sympathetic to a woman's complaints and don't dismiss it as "oh yea, been through that myself (but I'm sure theres plenty of dismissive assholes out there as well).
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
Colposcopy's actually are kinda cool. I had to spend a day in the GI lab in nursing school....
I want to specialize as a nurse in wound care. Why would anyone want to spend their days lookign at nasty, infected, seeping wounds?
I just think they are cool....and I thin the healing process is even cooler. Tp see a nasty boo boo....know how to treat it, and watch it heal into normal skin again....it's just neat, to me anyway.
What professions I don't understand...proctology. Literally, the study of the anus.
While what's inside the ass(colon, intestines) might be cool....the asshole itself is the most disgusting part of the body.
And podiatry. Foot doctors. Do you know what kind of nasty feet they deal with? Fungus, infections, smelly shit....I have a foot phobia, but still...feet are nasty, espicially feet in need of a doctor care.
I think any doctor just has his reasons for what area he chooses to spealize in...maybe a gynecologist lost his mother to ovarian cancer? You never know.....personally, I prefer a female gyn....so when I say my cramps feel like death, she knows exactly what I mean. A male gyn can only imagine.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
My mom knows a lot of ob-gyns (she's a labor and delivery nurse) and I'm pretty sure none of them are pussyhounds. Obstetricians make a shit-ton of money and are one of the few doctors that get to deal with happy people. Most people are sick or in pain when they have to see a doctor, but ob-gyns deal with women who are mostly healthy and usually happy to be pregnant. And yeah, a lot of them are just fascinated with the reproductive system, which is understandable. It's pretty effing cool how we can create an entire person out of nothingness just by fucking!

Haha, that's a cute way of looking at it.
I had a male friend who went from one medical field to OBGYN because, you're right, he made a lot of people happy by saying 'you're pregnant'.

isn't it? all it takes is one little cell to multiply into trillions of individual cells to make up a person! that in itself inspires awe in me.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
The reason men become gynocologists and proctologists? Because they get PAID! Seriously, those are two of the top paying medical specialities. They make more than a GP, less than a heart surgeon, but the stress is significantly less. Plus, there is always going to be places that need these type of doctors. Cha-ching!
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
When I was going into medicine and all my friends where at that age where they would praise the Gynecological profession as if it was the Golden Road to constant action, all I could think of, having family in it, is grandma coming to me cause she doesn't trust anyone else, slamming her feet in the Stirrups and saying "What's WRONG with this?!" *Inhales a cigarette* "Make it work right again"
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
I wonder more about the male gyn who goes home to his SO and how he feels about seeing another - you know, and if he does little comparisons in his head .How can you just clear your head of all that at the end of the day LOL.::)
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
My bf wants (tentatively-he hasn't started med school yet) to be an ER doctor, which I always thought was the worst! All those people in various states of car crash, near death, etc., not to mention having to mess with all parts of people. His explanation-his mom was an ER doctor and he got to see her at work (because he had a big, bleeding head wound when he was 8, that she had to stitch up) and it made an impression. Whatever floats people's boats, I suppose.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
Back in the day, when I was an intern, I had to do two months of OB/GYN. By the time I finished that rotation, I could not think of women in a sexual manner. It took one evening and a wad of cash at Imperial Showgirls to fix me.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
Oh, and Katrine is 100% right. The most popular and most competive specialties are generally the ones that pay the best, have the best lifestyle, or are a combo of the two. The saying is "if you want to be happy in medicine, follow the ROAD". Meaning, Radiology, Opthamology, Anesthesiology, and Dermatology are the best lifestyle fields. Physiatry (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) is joining that list as well. Many people joke that PM&R stands for Plenty of Money and Relaxaion. The thing is that these lifestyle specialties are VERY VERY competitive. It is not competitive at all to do an Internal Medicine residency. From there, one increases his/her income by going into GI (colonoscopies all day long) and Cardiology and other subspecialties.
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
i have a friend who's studying to be an obgyn. he's in the navy and during his training he had to work with a hospice type organization for a couple years. he said he made the choice to become an obgyn because he saw so many people die, and he wanted to be a part of birth instead.
i think he said "i helped so many people on their way out, i'd like to help people on their way in"

Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
actually, it's probably more like the closing scenes of Animal House ...
Eric Stratton (a.k.a. 'Otter') ... gynecologist, Beverly Hills CA !!!

Ugh. You reminded me of a frightening gyn story.
My gyn was a woman.....and the second year I went for my annual, she had her head under the drape, checking me out and said, " I examined you last year to, so that's good. I can kind of compare what it looked like last year to now."
And I'm thinking....lady, you look at cunts all day long, and you remember what they all look like a year later? Either I had a very memorable pussy, or your some kind of freak.....
Scary either way.

She's either a freak or she's comparing against notes she made in your chart from the previous year :D
Re: male gynocologists and medical field choices
Comparing notes, any other gyn could have done. That's their job to compare notes from last year....so why the hell would she say I saw it last year, so I can compare it to this year.....

It's just common wording that docs use. I'll say to a patient, "I examined your knee last month, so let's examine it again today so I can compare it to the previous exam......."
