40's/50's movie star look
I hope this is the right place to post this. People tell me a lot that I have a very "classic" 40's or 50's movie star kind of look. How do you guys think I can capitalize on this? Last night I tried out a smoky eye and matte classic red lip, which seemed to work really well. I also curl my hair a lot. What are some other ways I can exploit this look to make more money? Outfits, make up, etc. Is this even a good idea?
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
Some cute pin up type outfits would probebly look really hot. I think its a sexy look, I do the red lips smokey eyes a lot and I love it, but I wouldn't say I have the whole 50's look going. But I LOVE the pinup type outfots, I thin they look so sexy!
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
Oooh, I believe Yekhefah actually does this type of look in the club. I think she was talking about it a couple months ago. Try contacting her?
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
I get told this a lot too...mostly I suppose because I have Marilyn Monroe/Jane Mansfield-ish curves.
When I want to play it up...smokey eyes, HUGE fake lashes, red or GLOSSY lips. Curled hair..kind of that fluffy flowing curls look. (like in my avatar). I also play it up with the outfits...bra's that accentuate my cleavage..flowing skirts..polka dots esp. Rhinestone jewlery...glamour is key
Then in the club..make sur eyour music matches. so no hip hop or hard rock. You can do some modern stuff...but keep it in the same flavor. i like Christina Aguleira Candyman and songs like that for this look.
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
^ she wont dance to that ;) i think you can play it up, but i dont think the music you dance to fits that look at all. maybe you could post a thread about music for that look in music mix and see if anybody has any ideas that you wont hate?
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
Well..it kind of detracts from the look if the music doesnt fit. Picture Marilyn dancing to Tupac...you know what I mean?
But rock it how ever you think will wortk for you.
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
^ that's why i'm saying her music doesnt fit. i can picture the look on her working the floor, but not on stage.
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
Well...OP what kind of music do you like?
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
(p.s. i like your hair better when it's straight. :))
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
I am a mainly hard rock/metal kind of girl but I also like old stuff like rolling stones, jimmy hendrix, etc. I wouldn't be adverse to dancing to different music as long as it wasn't rap or hip hop (which clearly wouldn't work for this look anyways).
Britt244 you are one of the only people that likes my hair better straight! It seems almost everyone else likes it better curly. Have you ever seen it when I curl it with rollers and not the waver iron?
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
I'd like to work this look too. And I also sort of don't know how to go about it. So...I'm watching thiw thread with interest!
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
i get told this all of the time. i think it's my big eyes and the way i dress. might also be my affection for red lipstick.
i get it more when i wear my hair in big soft curls and/or when i wear lots of classic looking glam jewelry.

Hard Rock/Metal mixed with 40's/50's.... Kat Von D. for inspiration maybe? ;)

These two came to mind. :)
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
I just posted this reply in the music bit
Social distortion she's a knockout works
When I was able to do this look ( my new club doesn't allow this. )
I also danced to Gang of four and Kaiser chiefs and it worked.
But if you want to give the entire aura of big band era glam
More jazzy stuff works. If you need an edge to it ( because I sure as hell did ) portishead, tricky and Esthero works.
Re: 40's/50's movie star look
How do you do the hair?!
I got the makeup and clothing style down pat, but the hair baffles me everytime!
