Night sky event no one alive today will see again
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate today, Aug 27th when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again!

it's not a bother and I would be thrilled if it actually happened, but it's just not true.

Okay..
This is what one website says:

But...this is what NASA says:

I think I'll trust NASA over some random ass website !

Re: Night sky event no one alive today will see again
"Tuesday morning, Aug. 28 brings us the second total lunar eclipse of 2007. Those living in the Western Hemisphere and eastern Asia will be able to partake in at least some of this sky show.
The very best viewing region for viewing this eclipse will fall across the Pacific Rim, including the West Coast of the United States and Canada, as well as Alaska, Hawaii, New Zealand and eastern Australia. All these places will be able to see the complete eclipse from start to finish.
Europeans will miss out on the entire show, as the Moon will be below the horizon during their mid and late morning hours."

I know, huh? I was soooooo bummed that we had cloudy skies and thunderstorms during the meteor shower a couple of weeks ago! >:(
Regarding the hole in space:
"The universe has a huge hole in it that dwarfs anything else of its kind. The discovery caught astronomers by surprise.
The hole is nearly a billion light-years across. It is not a black hole, which is a small sphere of densely packed matter. Rather, this one is mostly devoid of stars, gas and other normal matter, and it's also strangely empty of the mysterious "" that permeates the cosmos. Other space voids have been found before, but nothing on this scale.
Astronomers don't know why the hole is there.
"Not only has no one ever found a void this big, but we never even expected to find one ," said researcher Lawrence Rudnick of the University of Minnesota."
can anybody else hear the twilight zone music? Maybe it's the "nothing" haha

Re: Night sky event no one alive today will see again
Well I've got no cookies, but since its Cam's birthday, a future list of celestial events will hopefully make a nice consolation.
List Of Solar Eclipses
List of Lunar Eclipses
List of Planetary Conjunctions
List of Meteor Showers
Plan ahead for that prenumbral eclipse in 2045. :D

Re: Night sky event no one alive today will see again
The Mars thing was true in 2003, but the emails keep getting forwarded and people think that it is THIS year. Watch for them again NEXT year (the emails that is.)
But the lunar eclipse is tonight. Visible in most of the USA, starting about 3 a.m. MDT, and totality from 4 to 5 a.m. MDT. Either stay up late or get up early, depending on your time zone.
The eclipse will, IMHO, be more spectacular than Mars was in 2003. It was bright, but nowhere as large as the full moon.

Re: Night sky event no one alive today will see again
Well, the Lunar Eclipse is supposed to be starting to happen between 5-6pm in Australia here. Unfortunately due to the fact that the sky is very cloudy today I won't get to enjoy it :( and I was so so so looking forward to it as well. Oh well.
edit to add: I was just informed about http://www.discoverychannel.com.au/_home/index.shtml :) so even if it is too cloudy (which it looks like it is going to be for me) i can watch it online...
oh damn.. shitty 28.8 connection! ARGH!!!! :(

Re: Night sky event no one alive today will see again
