How Do I Learn The Moves???
Ok I Want To Be A Dancer, Not Only Exotic But Professional As Well, But How Do I Learn The Moves. How Did You Guys Learn How To Move Like A Stripper? Should I Just Practice In Te Mirror? Thats Part Of Whats Holding Me Back, Is My Stage Performance Is Wack!. Flexibility And Floor Work Tips???
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
What do you mean by professional? If you're interested in a career outside of exotic dancing you should probably be taking dancing classes and attending a school of arts or something to that effect. If you don't feel like learning as you go at the club, I guess you could try one of those S-factor classes or whatever, but I don't know personally how realistic the classes are.
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
Watch other dancers and practice. But don't outright steal moves!
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
You can't just learn stripper moves...you have to pick them up as you go. Of course, I've never understood some of the girls who've work at my club for 5+ years and still can't dance. Anyway, yeah experience is everything in this business.

Exactly what she said. Just add your own flair;) (thread title reminded me of "The Last Dragon" lol).
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
I found the carmen electra series pretty helpful, considering I have no idea on dancing. I mean, it's annoying as hell to listen to and she's kind of an idiot, but it's good for a few starter routines I suppose.
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
Look at playboy or old school cheesecake photographs. When starting out it may be easier to think of stagework as a series of sexy poses showcasing your lovely body, rather than dancing. Over time you'll figure out how to flow from one to another. For fancy hip action, watch youtube.
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
it's pretty much all on the job training combined with various background knowledge (cheerleading, gymnastics, various dance disciplines- bellydance, ballet, jazz, modern, yoga) blended into a sexy medley of strangeness.
so... learn as you go and add your own twist from your own dance/athletic background into it.
put on some heels and some music and watch yourself in the mirror

^^^I found these a total waste of time. I doubt Carmen Electra has ever been into a strip club. It's regurgitated bullshit from stupid hollywood stripper movies.
It may sound harsh, but the best way to learn is just to go to work and do it. When they call your name on stage, you're forced to get up there and figure it out. I couldn't dance worth a shit when I first started, but I still made money, and you will too. And it's really exciting when you learn new moves on the job too. Everyone's got to pay their dues, and you'll get through it.
At least know how to walk in the shoes before you start dancing. That's half the battle when you're new. The rest you'll figure out on your stage sets. While you're getting paid. ;)
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
What I meant was, for a complete novice like me.. never danced before in a SC, it IS something that could help you become more aware of self image and such I suppose. Not something I'd display publicly for money XD
Shh, that damn Carmen Electra gives me a workout trying to keep up :P Not completely useless, I couldn't walk for about 2 days.. Yes, sad :P
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
Yep, learn as you go...watch other dancers that know what they are doing...get used to the heels...do a search on youtube for some things and try them in the mirror...if you don't like the way something looks when you do it, play around with a certain pose/trick until you do.. :)
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
As others have mentioned, learn to walk in the shoes (or boots) before you go on stage. There's nothing worse than stumbling around while you try to find your balance and break in a new pair of stillettos. As for knowing the moves, don't stress it too much. Some girls hardly dance at all, they just walk back and forth as though they're modelling Even the best clubs are not as you see in the movies. . . few girls do "routines" that are choreographed. If you really don't know what you're doing you might want to start at a less popular club or work a slower shift until you figure out what works. If there's a pole you can ask one of the girls to show you a few tricks when its slow. GL.

Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
Ye male POV....
Remember us custies are buying an illusion, and it's the interaction between dancer and customer that makes a dancer an effective earner, not her pure dancing skills.
I've seen highly accomplished dancers that leave their audiences cold because they come over as cold and mechanical. Conversely, I've seen less than skillful dancers really hold the attention because they give the impression they're enjoying what they're doing.
Making eye contact with and smiling at individual members of your audience will probably help you more than a highly slick move.
As to dancing tips - moving *slowly* is a good one - guys want to look at your body, not see a blur spinning round the pole.
Phil.
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
Don't worry too much about fancy "dance moves" when you start. Yes, it's good to go watch dancers and pick up a few. But when in doubt, some seductive swaying with good eye contact and a cute smile can fill up quite a bit of your time. Just practice in front of the mirror to get an idea of simple slow swaying moves that look good. Eye contact and smiling will take you further than you think.

I did the Carmen Electra dvds too! Though the routines were total camp, I thought the workouts were spot-on for targeting the muscle groups that I use at the club, and since I have nooooo motivation to work out on my own, it's a good way to keep myself in stripper shape. But that's more of a body-toning and much less of a "hmmm should I go on stage and do this?"
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
Ya....before i turned stripper i did jeff costa and carmen electra. It made me not want to ever strip because they look so tacky. I would just put music on, watch the girls, and work on flexability. BE seductive and sexy. Eventually its hot and you look good, but really i just think of my grocery list while dancing or something;D
Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
When I started, I had a boyfriend go buy me some heels...I was still living at home, so late at night and when my parents weren't home, I would practice walking in the heels and dancing. Just turn on some music you love, that the customers will like, and start moving...I practiced in front of a mirror with a blacklight on in the room at first...then I started practicing in really harsh light b/c I wanted to see the way my body would look when I moved a certain way...meaning, if you have bad cellulite, you don't wanna flex your ass cuz it will show up...lol. That's a good tip b/c sometimes, those DJ's will put on the white light and it sucks...lol.
Not only are you trying to be sexy, you have to move in a way that flatters your body. Practice in front of a mirror and really watch yourself. Move fairly slow at first...then before you know it, you'll be moving differently and sexier in different parts of the songs you dance to. A lot of it depends on the music. Don't necessarily dance to what you like...dance to what appeals most to your customers and they will be more into you and naturally, will want you to dance for them. Also, eye contact is a big deal...make eye contact with as many guys in the club as you can while on stage. Make them "know" you want them. Good luck!

Re: How Do I Learn The Moves???
stripper moves you learn on the job.
real dancing you learn from respectable teachers or classes.
