Ok, so you want to be a dancer. Tips to learn the moves.
I did this and I still do.
1 Watch the other girls
2 Watch music videos
3 Watch movies that are about dance. For example, Step Up, Dirty Dancing 1 and 2, ect.
You'd be amazed how easy it is to pick up. You don't have to dance like the other girls in the club.
I'm the sweetheart and I do more floor work.
T is the buckwild dancer.
J is the queen of the pole and gracefull as hell. God knows I'm not
B says she was a professionally trained dancer but it looks more like a seizure. Elaine from Sienfeld dances better.
Everyone is different and unique. You'll find your style and good luck!

Nice advice, Gemini! I would like to add to avoid "B" syndrome, slow it down a little, and adjust your moves for an audience rather than dancing like you would at the club.
Anyone else want to add advice? I'll collect it and add it to the stickies.
Other movies to watch include Chicago, Cabaret, and All That Jazz.

Thanks Susan!
WooHoo! My advice is a stickie!
Oh yea, almost forgot!
BE YOURSELF!!!! Don't pretend to be something your not.

As someone who was just HORRIBLE on stage for like three months, I'll just say that this doesn't have to ruin you. Acting humble, smiley, cutesy...these are all very good damage control for bad stage dancing. Even when customers would tell me I looked "kinda rough" in my performance, I could often win them over with a positive attitude.
My only advice: don't be too ambitious when you start out. There are so many things to get used to...I had a hell of time getting my balance in those heels. There is no reason to feel like you need to look professional with lots of moves, or a repetoire of tricks. A friend of mine looked amazing her first time...she definitely had a knack for it, but I think she looked so hot because she MOVED SLOWLY, and just tried to do simple, sexy motions.
Take it easy, and avoid eye contact until you're more comfortable. I know some people say "make eye contact", but that would only mess me up more. Just my experience.

Sounds like my club.
I also do a lot of floor work.
A is the new chick, convinced that dance club bopping around is sexy. (it's not.)
C is the pole Goddess.
I is the skinny white rap chick whose high energy but still very erotic.
Re: Ok, so you want to be a dancer. Tips to learn the moves.
I learned on the job and yes - slower is SO much sexier than bopping around like you're at a regular club.
For floor work you can copy and practice what you see others do. A dvd by Fawnia has some floor moves too. Google: "fawnia poledancing"and you should find her dvds.

One thing I'm unsure about is when they play really fast music, how are you supposed to slow dance to that? I went and saw my first strip show last Saturday and the girl had some great pole tricks but she seemed to be dancing really fast. I went home and tried doing some of the things she did but slower, and without the pole lol, and I have to agree that the slower dancing is sexier. I still have so, so very much to learn!

If you read around in MMix you'll notice references to being able to "pull off" a song....this is what we are talkin' about. As I'm not a dancer for me to comment on the how's and why's will be a lil tough but here goes;
1. Whether the song is fast or slow...are YOU getting into it? What are you "transmitting" to the crowd?? Fun,sexy, seductive, or plain wild "catching" energy (that stuff that B. Spears was sorely lacking last night)? The "moves" aren't as important as the "delivery"....think and discuss:)
2. No matter the music....there is a beat or "back beat" and when ya get really good you might focus on other instruments or lyrics to "focus" on. What makes a fast or hard driving song cool to see a dancer perform to is that "contradiction"....a woman slowly, sensuously rubbing herself as an earth shattering guitar solo pounds a mans other senses is a sight to see and in my experience tends to really get a crowd going....energy and money wise.
If you stick around, read around, and ask around there are many talented people on this board you can learn alot from.

You know like there are a thousand and one pole youtube videos out there, how come there arnt any stage performance ones?
Or if there is, why cant I find them?

I'd say go visit other stripclubs too because different clubs have different styles, a cultural vibe of the club maybe determined by the pole setup or size of the stages. At first the last thing you wanna do is look in the customers eyes, but once you go to another stripclub and are sitting at the bar,,, you realize that her dancing level doesn't matter as much as the attention they pay to you.. It's been a year, and I've slowed down considerably, but I still admire the girls who can barely stand there and look so sensual, I always tell myself I can do that and then I get up there with those lights and all eyes on me and feel like I'm not doing enough so I start overcompensating and moving to the next move too quickly instead of just acting like you're laying in bed tickling your own skin or checking yourself out in the mirror. My doorguys will tell me that the sexiest they saw me was when I was laying on my stomach on the stage between songs, smiling...
Re: Ok, so you want to be a dancer. Tips to learn the moves.
One thing I was afraid to do on my first couple of nights was ASK guys what they found sexy! Now, when I'm sitting with someone and we're chatting while someone whose moves I admire is on stage, I call attention to her performance and get his feedback on how it's working for him. From this, I have learned that:
1. Pole work is overrated according to many, many guys. Gets attention, sure, but it's not what gets them wanting to spend extra time with you.
2. Ditto contortionism. C at my club regularly puts both her ankles behind her head. I can't even touch my toes. We get about the same number of guys up to the stage.
3. (Almost) everything you lack in moves can be made up in personality and connection with your audience. There's no one-size-fits-all. The girls that I see getting the most business are the girls who smile and look customers in the eye and seem to really enjoy their own bodies.
Youtube has been a good resource but yeah, it would be awesome if there were more quality videos.
