Would this be worth paying for?
I am thinking of starting a business selling custom slip-covers for furniture (like Ikea).
This is what I have made so far: chair covers and curtains.
Do you think people would buy this kind of stuff - or not really?
(and what would be a reasonable price to sell them for??)
These are before / after shots

Re: Would this be worth paying for?
WOW!! Those are REALLY pretty!!
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
Thank you so much! You are the first person in the world to see what I made ;-)
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
People will buy it. Build a website for easy ordering.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
How much do you think I can charge? For the chair covers for example?
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
I would check out what catalogues are charging. I would guess at least $20/chair cover. No less than that. It also depends on the fabric used. I can see natural fabrics being a hit. Maybe batik prints.
It really depends on where you live or your target customer.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
If I only charge $20 I won't make any money... hmmm.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
$20 was just a minimum and a HUGE buess on my part. I have no clue.
How much would you sell them for that wouldn't make you feel like you're being taken advantage of?
How do you think you should price them.
RESEARCH. Do a search online to see what other people are charging. Compare your quality to what you suspect theirs is.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
charge double the cost of what it cost to make it uh did i say that right lol
like if it cost $20to make than charge $40 per chair or whatever
and then give a bit of a discount if they buy a set
like 4 chair covers instead of $160 do like $120-$140 or something
i dont know....just an idea
oh are they washable?that would be cool.i would buy 2 sets and rotate them every month.yanno us cat owers are always dealing with hairy furniture..,lol
oh yes and yes your stuff rocks
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
I think that's a very cool idea and a lot of people would be into something like that.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
If you can make slipcovers that repel cat vomit and launder perfectly clean after the cat yaks up on them every other day, I'll pay $2000 for one white couch's worth.
Anyway, the pics are beautiful. Looks very well-crafted! I think you should compare prices on similar slipcovers and curtains, and adjust your prices to fit within that range.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
The origonal white cover was $49... I could sell mine for $39 and make a decent profit...
I emailed someone for a quote to build me a website and they said it would be about $700, which sounds like a lot. I don't know if thats a fair price...
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
Could you start selling on e-bay or another online site, and then when successful enough, move over to your own webiste??
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
maybe it's me, but those chair ones (the pattern) would be uncomfortable as i like to have my legs in odd positions when i eat, sometimes under my chair. so long as you vary styles, i think the idea is great. 40 bucks is the most i'd pay for slipcovers. if you tailor to my exact dimensions then i'd pay more.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
actaully looking at it again, its very good craftmanship as you go those corners down very well, you held the pattern/spacing.
Re: Would this be worth paying for?
If you don't knokw how to build your own, Ebay sounds like like a better choice.

I think the slipcovers look very professional and well-crafted! If you're planning to do custom jobs for people (as in they pick the fabric, you have to measure the chair and come up with a design or fit tailored to them), I think you should charge more than $39!! Custom-made stuff is expensive! I have been re-finishing tables and cannot believe how much some people are willing to pay if you make a "one of a kind, just for you" piece.
I agree about eBay, I've sold lots of stuff there and always had good luck. As far as the price for a website, I have a friend who is in the process of having a big, high-tech site set up and I know he paid about $8000 for it, so I guess depending on how fancy it is or how many features you want on there, the price you were quoted might not be bad. But I would suggest trying to get other quotes too so you can compare.
