Yellow. And other stripper movies
I just watched the movie Yellow.
I have to say- this is a terrible movie. Besides the fact it's terribly unrealistic about strip clubs, the plot doesn't tie together well and at the end you're like /:O
However I wanted to watch it as stated in the newbie forum that watching dance films is a good way to pick up moves although only 10- 20 minutes tops was useful for that.
Has anybody seen this movie? Have any other stripper movies you feel like blathering on about? :D
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
Never even heard of it.
*scampers off to imdb*

Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
I saw it. The actual filming was good, but like you said the plot sucked and whoever wrote it had obviously never been in a strip club in their life.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
^^^yep, Isn't it great when retards write stripper movies
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
huh, it looked so promising on netflix.
i will have to see what way it's inaccurate when it turns up (all stripper movies are inaccurate, just in different ways).
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
Well, she get's paid by this greasy old club owner, like a hundred dollars a shift or something, for stage dancing and that's all there is. The club provides outfits and everything, and he tells her what to wear. Then all these dirty men sit around the stage and throw money at her. At one point she dances in a glass cage shower thing. The whole thing just isn't based on reality.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
"Roslyn Sanchez" is actually a very good dancer. I enjoyed watching it for that reason alone. The writing and plot of course was horrible but I really love Roslyn Sanchez
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
Yeah this movie is terrible I kept thinking I wish it was like that ! The movie that pissed me off was dancing at the blue iguana when a customer says he wants a blow and the dancer says 100 dollars. ugh!
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
Sorry, didn't see the other thread. Should've searched, I know. BAD NEWB!
I agree she's a good dancer. I used to do ballet and I was impressed that she actually knew what she was doing.
Like someone else said, not realistic portrayal of strip clubs at all. She gets hired and paid $100 a day plus her tips. I'm sure some clubs work this way but not many. And again her costumes are chosen for her, etc.
Then she just hates stripping SO much and there's the whole OTC relationship thing... ick.
Even the whole becoming a "real" dancer is a bit unrealistic to me as I had the impression she hadn't been in a class for years.
But, good dancing!
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
AGH!!! I just rented this from Blockbuster. I returned it unfinished. I couldn't bring myself to watch the rest of the train wreck. TOTALLY unrealistic!!! Someone who had never been in a strip club combined the far ends of the romantic and seedy spectrums and *poof* made a movie.
As for Dancing at the Blue Iguana... a much better movie (although still not realistic). If you see it and aren't sure you like it, watch it with the director's commentary. It's even better when you understand how it was made. And Darryl Hannah also has a documentary at the end of it that is quite amusing.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
i luvvv showgirls. i learned my first hustle from that movie.
"you can't touch me, but i can touch you... and i'd really, love, to touch you."
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
I've never seen a good movie that was ABOUT stripping. The only good, accurate movie strippers I've ever seen were played by Natalie Portman in "Closer" and Jada Pinkett-Smith in "Independence Day." But both those characters being strippers had nothing whatsoever to do with the plot of the movie; it was just their job, which is of course what makes it a good portrayal.
We'll see how Jessica Biel does us in "Powder Blue" when it comes out.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
^^^ OMG!! I used to loooove that movie. I grew up in a really really really conservative family and my oldest sister got a job at Blockbuster and got 5 free movies a week. When my parents went out of town, we fired that shit up over and over and over. I thought it was amazing.
I recently caught it again on TV (thousands of blurred boobies) and it's just horrible... yet... soooo nostalgic for me.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
or the vh1 version... "i'm watching you be a prick" has turned into "i'm watching you be a rat"....

portman's character being a stripper was actually very relevant in Closer, but to some extent that held for the other characters too.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
Well yeah, but it wasn't a "movie about stripping" in the sense that Yellow and Striptease are. That's what I meant. Although the movie's greatest scene takes place in the club, the rest of the film does not.
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
I just got done watching this movie and I really enjoyed it. Must be the only one. It made me want to start ballet again. :)
The plot was about a woman trying to make a better life for herself. In the end she had to choose whether to follow her destiny or run away with her knight in shining armor. Obviously she chose her dream. How is that confusing?
Re: Yellow. And other stripper movies
Seen it months ago..didnt like it either. I started a thread on or posted in a thread I think..I dont think anyone had responded to it lol. It just seemed..idk fake to me.
