Advice on web payment processors
I would normally have posted this in Dollar Den or Site Issues, but it's important enough to get a broad range of input from the Lounge lizards.
I know many dancers have their own web sites and use payment processors on the Web who don't faint at the very notion of nudity. Uh, what century are we in?
Anyway, Pryce and I have been discussing fundraising activities and we both agree that a reliable Web-based payment processor is essential for any kind of sustained campaign. We have a few other tricks up our sleeves, but everything comes back to payment convenience.
In short, can any dancers recommend Web-based payment processors based on their own experience that are reliable and are not going to lock us out because of the nudity on this site?
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks!
Re: Advice on web payment processors
I've been using AlertPay mostly... and Obopay. There's also CCbill but they take a mighty % compared to others.
Re: Advice on web payment processors
CCbill. I used them when I had my own adult paysite with good experience. I know some adult webmasters who've used them for years.
Re: Advice on web payment processors
AlertPay. CCbill is better, but I think it cost a lot to get set up.
Re: Advice on web payment processors
^CCbill doesn't charge any setup fee. No startup cost, just whatever % they charge for transactions. Their rates get lower as your processing volumes rise...
Re: Advice on web payment processors
^^^ Yeah but their 14.5% is steady until you hit 5000 transactions. I don't see this site getting anywhere near that. I think it all depends on how much 14.5% is being taken out of.... I think?
Re: Advice on web payment processors
I think 14.5% is quite reasonable, all things considered. THEY are running all the risk and doing the actual processing, and they'll have you setup and running in 2 days or less. Plus it's for adult-oriented sites which automatically carry higher risk and get charged much higher fees than "normal" sites. And they're not a fly-by-night company - been around since 1998 that I know of. If you're running 1k a month in gross volume (a conservative estimate, I think), you'll net $855 after the transaction fees. That's not so bad.
