Advice on modeling requested please
So...I haven't modeled in a long time. I just gave it up, got to busy, whatever. It was never a great aspiration of mine anyway. But the other day, I got an email from a photographer I have always wanted to work with, but he's very busy and we've never been able to get together. He emailed me and asked me if I wanted to shoot for a client in Zurich he has, for a calender.
He wnats to know what pay I am expecting, and I'm unsure what to tell him.
The shoot is for business sexy, up to implied nudity. Shoot after hair and makeup is expected to take 1 hour. Normally for implied nudity, I would charge $100 an hour, but with a 3 hour minimum.
I feel $100 is to low and i don't want to undercut myself, but also I think $300 is to high. But also...I would shoot with this guy free.He is one of the best in Vegas, and I have wanted to shoot with him forever. He said I would get a few copys of the prints for my own use. Of course, I can't tell him I would do it free cause I don't want to sound overly eager and unprofessional. So I need to come up with a price that sounds professional, but not to high.
What should i ask for?
I'm worried if I quote to low, I'll look like a newb, and if I quote to high I'll look like another primadonna wannabe model and he'll tell me nevermind.
Re: Advice on modeling requested please
Kaylin, that level of shoot moves in much higher strata than I. But here's a thought.
Dear GrandShooter:
Thank you very much for contacting me. Given the quality and prominence of your work, I'm extremely complimented.
My normal rates would be $100/hour for a minimum of three hours. However, I do have great admiration for your work, and I would propose a modeling fee of $150 for the shoot, with the understanding, as you proposed, that I would be retaining an agreed upon number of full-sized finalized photos for my own use.
What do you think? I'm not trying to cheap you out, but we know at his level, he could undoubtedly find some pretty ladies to do it for free to get started.
Re: Advice on modeling requested please
That sounds good....
Except that normally he goes through agencies to book models, as all he does is contracted work for clients...which is something I have never done. Actually been in print. Although I'm sure he coudl find pretty girls to work free, he wouldn't book them because he only works with experienced models. Which makes me feel honered that he personally went through his old contacts to find me and request me. But I think what you said was good. I might use that. $150 plus prints for a 1 hour shoot of implied nudity sounds fair. Espicially for the quaility of prints I will get, plus I'll have somethign for my modelign resume, if I ever try to do it again seriously. Right now all I have on my modeling resume is TV stuff, no print work.
