Is my camera broken? (not sure if this is the right spot for this)
I know a lot of the members on here are super tech smart – so I figured I’d ask you guys to see if anyone has any idea what’s up with my camera! /:O
I have a Sony Cyber Shot 4.1 mega pixels ( I know it’s not much – but it’s almost 3 years old!). I’ve noticed that my pictures lately have sometimes been coming out with these weird lines in them or even weird circles that almost look like water spots! It’s been doing it more – which really screws up a lot of pictures. >:( What could be wrong with it? I’m not sure if I just have it on the wrong setting or if it could be time to retire my camera and buy a new one. I’m attaching two pics that show what I’m talking about. The first shows the lines and the second shows the spots (there is one right next to the dog that is in the lead and another on the outside of the far right lane). Sorry about the silliness of the photos – they are from a dachshund meet up I went to yesterday and it was my first time seeing weenie races! :P

I thought that at one point but it doesn't happen all the time - so could it still be that?
I'm sure cleaning it wouldn't hurt...how do you clean such a small lense?
Re: Is my camera broken? (not sure if this is the right spot for this)
My first thought was a dirty lens too. I've seen specialized camera lens cleaning pads sold at Wal-Mart and local camera stores.
If cleaning doesn't work, it might be something internal, like a bad CCD.
Try resetting the camera too if cleaning doesn't work. Resetting the camera means to take out the batteries, hold the power button down for about 1 minute, reinserting the batteries, turning it on, and trying to take photos. If cleaning and resetting doesn't work, it'll probably need service.
You can always set up repair for Sony cameras at:
www.sony.com/repair
I believe, though, the repair cost may be more than a new camera. The bright side is that new Sony digital camera prices start at $150. I bought a DSCW55 with 7.1 pixels for around $200. I even got a free 1 GB memory stick!
Re: Is my camera broken? (not sure if this is the right spot for this)
It's the result of using your flash and the reflection on some of the particles in the air before the lens can neutralize it.
Basically, the flash/light is passing throw slowly or reflecting on something in the air and the lens is picking that up, the cause is typically untraceable which is why some say they're "Ghosts"
It's always safe to clean your lens, but first try setting it to a slow flash. (On sony its a lightening bolt with an S by it) The anti-red-eye utility helps sometimes too.

Ok I changed my flash speed...I'll try it this weekend when i go out and see if it's any better.
Mastridonicus....that's good thinking about the flash....seems like it would explain the spots....any idea what would cause the lines though?
