    Default Ortho TriCyclen (longer, sorry)

So.... I've been on BC for about a year and a half. The first yeat I was on Ortho Novum. I had an easy time of it, the only side effects being slight weight gain, bigger boobies, lower sex drive (it was still high enough that I wanted and enjoyed sex) and slight nausea the first couple weeks. My periods only lasted two days, were really light and never had any cramping... nothing.

After being on it about a year, my periods started coming lighter and lighter until one month it didn't come. I freaked out, thinking I was pregnant. Turns out it was just my BC. I told my doctor that I'd rather have a period every month for piece of mind and she switched me to Ortho TriCyclen.

I hate this shit. This is my second month on it, and I am aware that is takes usually three months for your body to adjust. I am so miserable. I have started rapidly gaining weight. I have mood swings from hell, getting irrationally angry at the drop of a hat and have been crying nearly everyday since I started on these pills. My period was the worst period I've ever had. I was doubled over with a bottle of Pamprin and a heating pads for TWO AND A HALF DAYS. The period itself lasted a full week and was three times heavier than my periods on my last pill. To top it all off, I'm having massive amounts of discharge and this smell that wont go away. I don't have any STD or infections, I clean down there and shower everyday but this smell will not go away. I am also constantly hungry but with no desire to eat anything.

To top it off, my sex drive has skyrocketed. It's gotten high enough that I feel like a cat in heat. I'm constantly turned on. It's really awkward.

Has anyone else had any trouble with this pill? And, do you think I should wait longer before talking to my gyno about switching it? I really don't want to go through another period like my last one and I feel like I have constant PMS.

Ortho-Tricyclen did the same thing to me, but also with the most amazing acne this world has ever known. I looked like the guys in Planet Terror. And it's supposed to be a cure for acne! Fortunately when I switched to another pill, it cleared up. I do better with a constant dose than a tripack.

Well, just another example of how everyone has different body chemistry....

I switched to Ortho Tri Lo in August and its been the best pill for me. I didn't gain weight, my acne cleared up and my sex drive came back....err....tripled it seems

I was on Microgestin before that which caused me to gain weight and killed any last morsel of a sex drive I might have had. It also contributed to the most intense migraines I've ever had. Mircette was before that and I had ok luck on it but was constantly bloated and fighting weight gain.

My first 3 months on Microgestin sound like your experience with Ortho Tri. I was doubled over with the worst cramps of my life and was crying at everything. Saw something cute on TV? Started bawling. BF not hearing what I say (thought he was ignoring me)? Crying my eyes out. Blech!!

After about 2 or 3 months on each of the pills I adapted to them and many of the emotional changes went away but I still fought major weight gain and cramps.
