    Default Relieving back pain

Ok, in the past I have suffered from some back problems (accident related + throwing my back out of alignment)

Also, I'm always sore just from walking around in 7 inch heels for hours on end. (Nobody else can relate can they? )

SO, I'm sure there some reason I'm not supposed to do this, but I have been sleeping on the heating pad set on the lowest setting for like a week now and I have SO much less soreness.

Just thought I'd share cuz its GREAT waking up in the morning without back pain!!! That is all.

Get yourself a foam ball and roll, the shit is great I tell you! It really hurts at first, but it will help push some of that lactic acid out of the muscles so they can relax and support your spine.

heating pads freak me out so I just use a rice sock. I haven't danced in 3 years now [ ] but I still get occasional back pain.

    I second Katrine.

Also take up Pilates and Yoga. I got rear-ended 2 days before I gave birth to Makayla and it threw out my back really bad. A Chiropractor reset my back, but Pilates and Yoga were my lifesavers. Not only do you stretch the muscles, but you make them stronger. When you throw out your back like that, it weakens the muscles.

I can almost 100% guarantee that you'll notice results within a week or so of doing Yoga/Pilates daily.

I start physical therapy for sciatica on Tuesday, but I was just talking to Brad about starting a Pilates class to keep things more flexible.

Glad to hear it works and thanks for the info!

I was two car accidents about 9 years ago. I went to the chiropractor for a bit and that seemed to alleviate my problems unti I started dancing a couple of years later. I started visiting the chiropractor again and she told me about Pilates. I bought the Windsor Pilates and started doing those. I haven't been back to the chiropractor since.

Yes. Pilates. And Pilates with the foam roller is amazing stuff. I have almost no back pain anymore (after half assing it this summer, and 4 weeks of actually going to class this fall) and my hips are far more relaxed.

You might want to try something like a hot water bottle instead of a heating pad. They can cause burns. I sleep w/ my HWB under my butt or over my hips most nights after work (unless it's too hot) and it helps a lot. A little hard to find, but ask in a pharmacy. Looks like so:

I put a folded up blanket over the heating pad so it doesn't burn but I like your idea better. Thank you.

The blankie works. I always got so nervous w/ the heating pad on all night. You'll want a cover or a blankie over the HWB because it's just rubber, but oh so cozy. If you tuck your covers around you, it'll stay warm all night too.

I agree 100% with VG and Kat. Yoga is amazing for helping those of us with f-ed up backs. I haven't had any trouble with mine since I started taking it 2x a week 1.5 years ago. Once you feel better, remember that core excercises are also needed to strengthen the surrounding muscles.

Ouch. Back is back hurting. Must have over-done the training, either the pool laps or running or both. I'm using those sticky pads, liguid gel Aleve, and very gentle stretching. Also giving myself a day or two off.
