Default Have you tried a "stability ball?"

These things seem like a lot of fun. I tried one once with a personal trainer a long time ago and now I think I want my own.

Does anyone have a good one they would recommend? I've noticed that they come in different sizes. Being short (5'1") I bought a 55cm Everlast ball today and it seems super tiny compared to whatever it was I used before. How big are your balls....err....ya know? It also feels really flimsy and I'd like to get a decent workout without popping it (because I would feel like a cow if I popped the damn thing.) The texture is also kinda sticky like a yoga mat and I'm not sure I like that.

Also, are there any good workout videos that go along with these things? I've never tried a video before but I never know what exercise to try next (queen of indecisiveness here) so I was hoping to find something to prompt me. That being said I don't want a beginners video thats just talks about stretching and warming up. I want some butt kicking so I can keep up with the rest of y'all on this Oct. challenge.

I like to use mine mostly for stretches. It makes my back feel better to roll on it lying backwards. The only real exercise I do with it is crunches.

I've used it for back stretches and crunches.

My bro gave me one for my B-day. I'm afraid to blow it up because I think my cat would pop it

Picked one up at Kohl's on a super sale for like a dollar.. very good quality too, a cat cannot pop these things.

Then I picked up Denise Austin Core Complete.. awesome workout, especially since you work every part of your body with the stability ball, with a focus on your abs.. my abs are like a rock now. I actually look forward to alternating this workout into my weekly routine.

My cat popped mine while I was sitting on it! So yea, it happens and be careful.

Go to performbetter.com. You can get a good ball and some instructional dvds.

I use mine as a chair at my desk mostly. But I've used it for abs, legs and back workouts too.

I actually have a 55", a 65" and a 75" ball. They all come in handy. Depending on which exercise I am doing, I utilize all 3 sizes. The ball is the correct size for you, if you fully inflate it and sit on it and your legs are bent at 90 degree angles. Otherwise, if your thighs are below your knees, you need a bigger ball...if they are above your knees, then you need a small ball. You can also adjust the size of the ball slightly by how much air you put in it. It's generally recommended that you inflate the ball measuring the circumference (with a measuring tape) or measuring how big the ball should be from the wall to a solid object on the floor and then inflating the ball between those two objects.

Stability balls work great with weights (really engages the "stability" muscles in the body and improves your weight workout).

They cost a little more but you can get "no-burst" ones. I think they can still deflate if you do something horrific to it but it deflates slowly. It doesn't pop.

Im 5'8" and mine is 65cm so I think 55 is correct for you.

I use it for a lot of exercises. I got the no burst ball and it came with a free dvd just showing you a bunch of exercises you can do with it rather than a chart like some come with.

I used it today actually.. for stretching.

I have one... it's oookkkaaayyy. The movie that came with it didn't have much to offer in the terms of a real work out, though. I just use it for my stomach... I hold the ball with my knees or ankles and lift my legs up and down.

^^^ there were a few i liked - i got it for ab work (bad back, helps a lot) but the lunges one is great - i can really feel it and again - saves my back. There are a couple others... but some were just stupid.

I used it but never enough to actually become stabile enough to get any benefit. I have a big dog & he kept trying to play w/ it, so I had to hide it.

My personal trainer taught me how to do pushups and back bends (think downwards dog with your legs on the ball) with it. OH MAN... that's a good workout. Great for the abs.

OMG. I would break my face doing that.

I've been using mine to build up core strength since I can't do much else with it right now. I just sit on it while I watch TV and kinda balance myself so I don't fall off. It must be working because I don't go tumbling off it as much as I used to.

My favorite DVD for the stability ball in the "Quickfix - Stability ball workout". There are three ten minute segments, so it's great for a quick 30 min workout. The lady isn't too annoying or hot, so she makes me feel comfortable.

Recently I bought the "Ten Minute" workout one, which is great as well. Alot more intense than the other one, but fast as well. It has five ten min segments and you can change the order of the workouts.
