    Default hgih protein foods

what are some foods with a lot of protein? i eat baked chicken breasts for dinner a lot, and i eat peanut butter on english muffins. what are some other foods that have a lot of protein? egg whites, right? haha, im so stupid when it comes to foods that are actually good for you as opposed to having hidden crap in them.

I'm a vegetarian and getting enough protein in my diet something i'm always aware of. Tofu is really high in protein. Diary products (yogurt, cheese, milk, etc). Soy is really high in protein. Beans in general are an excellent protein supplement.

    Good luck!

Pretty much any animal product, nuts, and beans. I'm sure there's other good ones but my mind's drawing a blank.

I like to make smoothies or oatmeal and toss in a little bit of whey protein or protein shake mix.
    Order Avon through my website!

Just be careful not to be eating too much protein. "Although protein is an essential nutrient, some research suggests that too much protein can increase the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney stones and osteoporosis." *see link below*

Another problem is that your body does not store protein, so whatever protein your body doesn't need it flushes out. That can be very taxing on the body.

Most women should not have more than 65 grams of protein per day.

If you do not like tofu, legumes, etc. try eating nuts. Here is a page full of information with the nuts that have protein:

Before you say you don't like tofu, give it a fair shot. Most people who say they don't like tofu have simply never had it prepared in a way they liked. You can throw silken tofu into a smoothie and never even know it was there (except for the lovely creaminess of the smoothie), or you can freeze extra firm tofu, thaw it and drain it, and crumble it up so that it's just like chicken. You can crumble soft tofu into a lasagna in place of ricotta cheese. The possibilities are endless, especially since tofu has no flavor of its own; it just takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with. It's very high in protein and low in fat. I love tofu!

^^thanks for the tofu ideas! I was just wondering what I could make with my tofu tonight. Do you have any links you'd recommend for tofu recipes? easy ones of course.

I love to cut extra firm tofu fairly thin and grill it with sesame oil, rice wine, garlic and some oyster sauce and then put all that over these yummy noodles that remind me of ramen only they're much healthier for you and made of egg. Or I'll pan fry the noodles. So delish!

Hm, we should really have a tofu thread. I'll start one.

I think so too. I'm so bad at cooking it and get tired of eating chicken as my main source of high protein since I don't eat nuts either.

I need someone to come over and cook me good tofu. I've tried it a few times...mostly in Japanese restaurants and hate the texture. And I know if I try to cook it myself I'll screw it up(yes I'm a very bad cook).

So...I need someone to cook me tofu.

    naked.

I started the tofu thread, so feel free to chime in there!

Cameron, I would LOVE to cook you tofu in the nude. But I've already learned the hard way not to fry tofu in the nude - tofu has a lot of water in it and it makes the hot oil spatter everywhere, which is not too pleasant when the chef is naked. So you'll have to miss out on tofu's most delicious preparation.

Oh, and I hate Japanese tofu too. I don't know why the Japanese are so resistant to the idea of cooking their food but they really need to learn to light a cooking fire now and then.

The below site has a lot of nutritional info on a large amount of foods.

Low-fat dairy products are an excellent source of quality protein (as are eggs). They have a high utilization rate (the right mix of essential amino acids).

Seitan is a tremendous source of protein. It's a gluten-based neat replacement (that sounds infinitely less yummy than it really is). Almost no fat, low in calories, and about the same protein amounts as chicken breasts I believe.

i like buffalo, venison and pork for protein, and also peas or french lentils. buffalo is awesome since it's low-cal and yet packs a lot of punch in terms of flavor. all the good parts of beef and none of the problems. it is a good change of pace from chicken or lamb (also perfectly fine protein options).

the mighty avocado is also ok, but does not work as a primary source of protein for most people.

nuts are always good, but they tend to create stealth-poundage issues since it can be hard to track servings.

some people find cheeses, eggs and other dairy to be excellent primary protein sources, but ymmv. raw dairy (milk and cheeses) is excellent if you can get it easily.

I find it hard to get a steady, adequate protein intake so I'm looking into supplementing with protein shakes. You can make one in the morning and get 50g of protein daily consistently, for example.

On their own protein shakes can be gross, but you can mix in yogurt and frozen berries and milk and things.

Like, I once tracked my protein intake on a day that (I thought) I ate lots of protein-eggs in the morning, cheese at lunch, meat for dinner-and it was pitifully low. Like barely 40g when I should be eating (at my height/weight) about 65g. So I think this is probably the only way I'm going to get near my proper protein intake...without resorting to eating whole chickens.

Garbanzo beans rock. You can put them on top of salads or eat them by themselves. They're great as a packed lunch in a tupperware container too since you don't have to heat them. (I eat them both hot and cold).

Hummus or Baba Ghannouj - regular chip dips I won't touch with a 10 foot pole. These are the only dips I've found that are low fat, high protein, high dietary fiber.

If you eat hummus, pay attention to the ingredients. Good hummus can be extremely healthy and delicious, but some cheap hummus is loaded with high-fructose corn syrup and other counterproductive crap. I get mine at the farmer's market from a guy whose mother makes it... nothing in it but the basics, plus fresh herbs and diced artichoke hearts. So good on sandwiches!
