Default health insurance rant.. its really bad....

    MOTHER FUCKER I HATE HUMANA.

Hubby office voted last year to switch from Aetna to Humana because it was cheaper per month. Evben though prescriptions are twice the cost, office co-pay is twice as much and a ton of shit isnt covered at all. Lovely. Hubby even voted against it tell ing them in no uncertain terms that Humana KILLED his father(they denied him treatmens and drugs that could have saved his life). No..idiots voted it in anyway.

Well great. Now I pay a crapload for my pills every month and since I'm on about 6 differant prescriptions to keep me alive..its a considerable amount. Bad enough.

They wont cover the CAT scan my doctor ordered because apparently an injury to the brain that causes me daily pain is no big deal. Its just my fucking brain..dont worry...I'm sure its nothing serious.

NOW...MOTHER FUCKERS are such a pain in the ass that my doctor wont accept them anymore. I just got notice in the mail today. I have 90 days to find another doctor. This is a huge deal since this is the ONLY doctor in TWENTY YEARS who has diagnosed me correctly and gotten me on a regimen of treatment that will keep me alive and allow me to have some sort of quality of life instead of the bone crushing pain I was in 24/7 while my body basically rotted from the inside out.

So thank you FUCKING HUMANA for killing me. Much appreciated.

i dont know much about this.. but could you buy a different insurance instead of going through his company? it could end up saving you money even though you'd be paying out of pocket.. you'd have lower copays and pills & they might actually cover what you need.

^^ Agreed... get a supplement insurance that will pay your co-pays on prescriptions and office visits? I know youd still need a new doc but it may help with all the bills.

Since we both have insurance issues, crazy high medical bills, and we both throw back a pharmacy's worth of pills a day, I feel for you. Can your current doctor give you some insight into who you may need to go to now that he isn't taking your insurance anymore? And can your insurance give you an actual reason that they won't approve a CT scan? I had to fight for 2 years to be able to get one, and it took an act of god to get it.

Grrrrrrrr, I hate shit like this....

I'm calling on Mon to make an appt to see if he can recommend anyone. My insurance gave me areason. I have to meet my yearly deductable before they cover anything. Unfortunately my deductable is so high I dont meet it so yeah..not covered.

And we have Aflac as supplumental insurance but I dont know what else they cover..have to check that out.

I cant get my own insurance becaise it sadly would cost even more and cover even less here. So basically I'm screwed.

God, that is SUCH a headache. I just got insurance for the first time in about 9 years, and I'm afraid to even try to use it, lest I fail to jump through the bureaucratic hoops correctly.

I really hope your Aflac coverage helps, Cameron!!!

I have chronic pancreatitis. Which apparently I was born with and yet went misdiagnosed until I was 32..even though symptoms started when I was about 12. So since it has gone untreated and gotten so bad over the years it has caused damage to my gallbladder as well and surrounding ducts and such. If my dr hadnt figured it out when he did...it very well could have been fatal since the damage in me is pretty advanced.

And dont think I'm not considering moving to Australia!!! I've always wanted to go and the more I hear about it, the more I want to...now to convince the husband....

Im so sorry This is what is wrong with this country. Seriously. ((((((HUGS)))))))

Would it be cheaper for you to get your own insurance? Or would that be impossible considering you have a pre existing condition?

Sadly no. I've looked into it. It would cost even more and cover even less.

Well thank god u have AFLAC , I heard they're great, so I wouldn't panic too too much until u find out. AFLAC is the backup insurance for cases like urs that their primary insurance won't pay certain procedures. I hope it works out for u. The american healthcare system is SHIT. And they call themselves the best country in thw world?....chyeaa

Unfortunately, she probably can't even get her own policy with that kind of pre-existing condition. I got refused by three companies when I lived in florida for having hormone problems.

I'll say it again. fuck insurance companies!

Maybe I should move to Australia too.

Michael Moore's documentary "Sicko" is great! Rent it at Blockbuster, it's quite something. And there was something done on Humana... basically most insurance companies have all kinds of heartless, money-greedy freaks at the top who don't have any ethics or morals... They want the largest profits. They want to go home with their 10 mil a year paychecks. That's what it is.
Check this out on youtube.com It's hilarious and heart-wrenching at the same time http://youtube.com/watch?v=cm4sNMKp0Mw It's about a pancreas thing and Humana.

If you search up "Michael Moore Awful truth" he has many segments...on all kinds of issues. It's funny and eye opening. Draw your own conclusions.

AFLAC is supposed to be good. i've never had it, but i was talking to a custy at work when the bartender came over. she was looking at AFLAC. My custy told her that they are a good insurance company. he needed surgery a few years ago and they paid everything. hopefully they come through for you too.

I would seriously suggest you move to a country with socialized medicine...My life plans have been re-aligned to accomodate my illlness. Luckily my problems are not as severe, but if it came down to it I'd move to where I could live happily & healthfully, not where my only option to be healthy is to be broke and miserable.

    Good luck sweety and (((HUGS)))

^^^ also not wanting to add bait to the 'hook', but why would you think that a country with socialized medicine would be any more likely to approve a CT scan ?

(snip)" The total waiting time for patients between referral from a general practitioner and treatment, averaged across all 12 specialties and 10 provinces surveyed, increased this year; rising to 17.7 weeks in 2003 (from 16.5 weeks in 2001-02).

“Canadians are waiting almost 18 weeks for essential medical care. And these lineups have almost doubled over the past ten years. The standard solution -- throwing more money at the problem -- is just not working. The federal and provincial governments are still failing to act in the face of international evidence that increasing patient options for private care reduces waiting times,” said John R. Graham, the Institute’s director of health and pharmaceutical policy research.

The waiting time between referral by a GP and consultation with a specialist rose to 8.3 weeks, an increase of 14 percent over last year (7.3 weeks).

The shortest waits for specialist consultations were found in British Columbia (6.7 weeks), Manitoba (6.9 weeks), and Saskatchewan (7 weeks). The longest waits for specialist consultations occurred in Newfoundland (12.6 weeks), New Brunswick (11.8 weeks), and Alberta (10 weeks).

The growing waits to see a specialist and to receive treatment were not the only delays facing patients in 2003. Patients also experienced significant waiting times for computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound scans.

The median wait across Canada for a CT scan was 5.5 weeks. The shortest wait for computed tomography was in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland (4 weeks), while the longest wait occurred in Prince Edward Island (8 weeks).

So if my friend had needed a referral for himself to a specialist and for a CT scan he'd probably have to wait at least 3 months. As it stands now his dog is getting through the same process in less than 3 weeks."(snip)

an interesting chart at the Fraser institute link shows that socialized medicine countries have de-facto 'rationed' the availability of CT scanning equipment to control costs ... i.e. Canada has only 1/3 as many scanners as the US does per capita, and the UK has only 1/4 as many scanners as the US does per capita. This de-facto 'rationing' results in long waiting lists. However, not everybody has to wait the same length of time. A gov't committee reviews all applications both for specialist referral and for CT scans, and tends to put 'standard' diagnoses as well as patients who are unable to work (i.e. unable to pay income taxes until they are diagnosed and treated) to the front of the list. While the gov'ts of socialized medicine countries will never admit it, the unemployed, the retired, and the chronically ill get comparatively low priority.
