I was thinking of getting a credit card but there are so many to choose from. Any recommendations?

The quality of credit card you can get will depend heavily upon your credit history. If you have marginal to poor credit your options will be rather limited. Are you the type that would pay your balances off every month or would you tend to carry balances on your cards? If the former there are some pretty good rewards cards out there. Chase Freedom, Amex Blue Cash, Discover Get More are a few good rewards cards. Cards issued by credit unions will tend to have better terms than those issued by big commercial banks. If you are eligible to join PenFed offers nice cards but they are harder to get than your typical big bank card, e.g. Citibank, Bank of America, CapitalOne, etc.

I like my AmEx. It reminds me that if I can't pay the bill in full when it comes, I can't have it.
Keeps my spending in check.

^It's a charge card and needs to be paid in full every month. Is that what you mean?
My Hooters card is the most fun; Everybody always has to comment on it when I use it, especially guys.
Discover is terrific if you have good credit. They have a lot of rewards programs, and they are AMAZING about watching your account for fraudalent charges. It's happened a few times to me, and Discover called to ask about the charges, and when I said they weren't mine, they took the charges off my account without any fuss at all.

I like my Bank of America Visa United Airways card. It gives me Sky miles that I can use towards plane tickets, and it also gives me a companion airline ticket redeemable for a plane ticket for another person each year.
I reccomend getting a rewards card of some sort-just make sure the rewards are actually something that you will use. I fly a lot, which I why I have that particular card.

I believe the best bet are the no fee ones that give up to 1% back on purchases. If you don't pay back every month of course you want the card with the lowest possible interest rate. Late fees can be high as $40 as well, I'm sure some are cheaper.
Most shell gas cards give 5% discount on gas purchases at shell stations. Discover gives up to 1% back on purchases if you use the card enough. Not every store takes discover though. There were mastercard and visa that also gave 1% back if you bought enough. Many people have cards that earn frequent flier miles.

Anyone know of a cc with a good online management system? The Mastercard I had in Australia, (from my bank) was great. I could log on anytime and view the transactions, sometimes within minutes, but always by the end of the day. I could also pay online any time.
Currently my Visa, does not have this option and and I don't have access to my transactions unless I call or wait till it comes in.
