Exclamation My club got sold to Deja Vue.... Help!!

I have been dancing in Sacramento, CA for the last 9 years. The club I currently work at (Rick's Showgirls in Rancho Cordova) is a very nice, lounge-style nude gentlemans club. No alcohol and some of the hottest girls in the area. I showed up at work yesterday and found out that our owner, Dave, sold the club to Deja Vue. I worked at a club of theirs a few years ago (Larry Flint's Hustler Club in San Francisco) and didn't like it.

What I need to know is what should I be expecting? Our club is closed today and having a meeting with the new owners. I have heard lots of different things from the different managers. They are raising the price of dances so the club can take a portion, new lap dance chairs that the customers feed the money into the chair directly, they are talking about "gown-only" attire and the we will carry lock boxes with the money we make...but we won't handle the money directly. I confused....does anyone have any words of encouragement...I am scared. I am expecting one of my friends who is going to the meeting to call me with details within the next couple hours.

I have heard alot about Deja Vue...and with a short stint of working for them leaves me scared and confused.

    Thanks
    Cinder

i'd love to be encouraging but i think you need to hear honesty more...

it will most likely suck. big monkey balls. if you didnt like working for deja vu before you will not like it now. i personally wouldnt work for them even if i was guaranteed a $1000 night every night and i know a lot of girls here who feel the same way.

I've only been to Deja Vu as a custie and this is the worst chain in my opinion. If you didn't like it before, you'll probably hate it now. New clubs come with new egos

Thank you.... great... this is some crazy shit. Do any of you know how those weird sounding chairs work? Oh...and how do you tell customers that are used to $10 dances on the floor and $30 VIP (2 dance minimum) that the dances are now $20 on the floor cause the new owners want a cut of every dance and $30 in VIP (No minimum)? Alot of our money comes from guys who have made us their regular spot for years.... we get alot of folks that come in and get a ton of $10 dances on the floor cause we have to pay out $5 to the club for every VIP we do (which still isn't bad) and they don't want a cut to go to the house... how do we keep our clientel?

Oh god I think you best start looking for a new club now.

Chances are with the dance prices hiked up your regulars will want to leave anyway. So I say scout a new club and take all your regulars with you.

I will echo the other girls and agree that you should probably start looking for a new club. Deja Vu as a whole pretty much sucks ass. I've worked in more than one and they are greedy motherfuckers who treat their girls like shit more often than not. On average I think they take about 1/3 of the money you make.

    You have my condolences.

Some girls are happy with their VU clubs, and maybe you'll be one of them. Start club hunting just to be safe. Audition ASAP because other area clubs may get flooded and you don't want to wait until they have too many girls.

Keep working there and don't burn any bridges, but start club shopping on your off days.

Okay, I know that the SF DejaVu nude clubs are run slightly different than the topless ones. If you didn't like how they did things at Hustler, you probably aren't going to like the changes...

Thats funny because I was going to go there tonite about a job! LOL

So they ended up sticking to the $10 dance thing. I honestly thought it wouldnt last long. How is that place doing? I started there - my very first club - 7 years ago...

Was City sold too? Does Brennan work at Ricks or City? I know hes always bouncing club to club... my fav manager...

True, I'd start looking around for another club...before everyone else does. If you leave on good terms with your current club, you will *most likely* be able to come back later if you want to.

I've only worked for one Deja Vu-owned club (Hustler Baltimore). It was the first club I ever worked at, and it is still by far the best club I've ever worked at. Then again, they don't have any of the BS you mentioned. No gowns-only code, no chairs with meters in them, we handle our own money...they don't even take a cut of our dances. I guess all DV clubs are not created equal.

I dont know how well this will go over at that club and in Sacramento. Its a small club and its competition is Gold Club (which is where all the dancers are going to go)

The club already has a small clientel and I think this is going to drive those few clients away for City. And gowns - I just cannot picture this place being like that. I think Deja-Vu is going to run this club further into the ground...

to be fair, though, that just changed. they did take a cut out until very recently.

a lot of this stems from the California 'employee dancer' doctrine as well as California lawsuit against Deja Vu. Basically, it would appear that the new owners are setting the stage to comply with the 'employee dancer' rulings in their previous lawsuit, which leads to the following ...

    - dancers are no longer allowed to accept direct cash transactions from customers

    - all money must be run through the club's accounting system thus the cash slots / tokens or whatever (which will also result in dancer percentage payouts and funny money cash-ins by the club being automatically reported to the IRS and Cal FTB)

    - as 'employer', the club can mandate dress code, shifts etc. for the 'employee' dancers

by the letter of California law (DOL rulings, state court rulings etc.) ALL California clubs are more or less required to start treating their dancers as 'statutory employees'. Because there hasn't been much enforcement, lots of California clubs are ignoring these rulings and are still doing 'business as usual'. However, with every California lawsuit and every California FTB audit against a club, that club will be leveraged to adopt the 'employee dancer' business model.

Expect lots of new bullshit rules that don't make much sense, higher fees and more ways in which they take your money, fines for stupid shit and sometimes for nothing at all, management to be replaced by corpo fucksticks who don't know their asses from a hole in the ground, lots of new dance specials that annoy the fuck out of you and don't make you any money (sometimes even cost you money), etc.

If you're lucky you MIGHT get to keep earning about the same money for all that added bullshit.

    ^What she said.

It might not be this bad, you never know, but just in case you might wanna start sniffing around for a new place to work.

I would hang-on and see what its like first. It might not be all that bad. I have a friend that use to work for Deja Vu and she really liked it.

I was talking to a dancer last night that had worked there Saturday night (I don't think she'll be back). I had noticed from a distance the new multi-color lights on the outside of the biuilding. But, I hadn't heard it had changed again until then. When she told me about money machines and red and green lights to time dances, all I could think was it was more complicated than I'd care to deal with.

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

It will suck, and they'll be taking more of your moola than you're used to. But depending on who's the manager it may not be TOO bad. Give it a shot, but explore and have another option ready as well in case you don't want to put up w/their corporate whore bullshit. I've worked for a couple Deja Vu clubs I've loved, and a few I've hated. It all depends...

Cally do they have Deja Vu clubs in Canada? Last I checked no, but I'm curious.

When I spoke with the manager a couple days after being bought (but before the machines being put in) he advised me NOT to work there. Hes a sweetheart and hated what they were doing to the club. Theyre taking 40% of your money off the top.

The club already had a very slow clientel and this will only make the few customers that used to go there find a new place... That club has always been slow. When it was Risky Business, then Ricks Showgirls and now this. I think its time for it to just go under...

Deja Vu is going to cause many a club to go under. I'm waiting to see which ones in SF will get shut first. They have 8 clubs alone in North Beach, and they are all doing horribly, and have been for quite sometime. One is new, they made Condor back into a strip club. Why I have no clue, it's so stupid considering all their clubs aren't doing very well at all. So they open yet another one....

The only time Deja Vue can get away with this practice is it its like the ONLY club in a large area or have a monopoly on an area. Otherwise when theres so many options why go there? Like with this one about 2 minutes away is Gold Club and another 20 minutes away are City Limits, Embers and The Body Shop.

I see this club shut down in a year.

I started at the club after it was bought by Deja Vu and besides a couple of minor wrinkles. I like it. Management is ok, the girls are cool, and the customer-wise there's something there for everyone.

But, having said that ~ I'm still planning on making trips to Reno once or twice a month. Vacationers + Nice weather + Unlimited alcohol = $$$$$$!!! LOL
