Haven't any of you girls been to your local Chinatown? The knock-offs are excellent and hold up really well.

I know a girl that wears a "Prada" backpack that only Prada would know is fake...she paid all of $15 for it.

All about the value proposition, I guess.

Theyre pretty much the same - Good leather. Its more the name that makes Chanel more expensive than Coach.

Nah...I was born without the girly gene that makes most chicks love purses, shoes, shopping, labels, etc....

Some stuff is cute....if I was to buy a label purse it would prob be Coach. But I cant bring myself to spend hundreds on something I will have a lipgloss explode or cough drops melt in!!

My everyday purse is vinyl and Playboy and I love it. Hubby bought me two for X-mas because I broke the strap on my last one and was sad. Now I have a replacement AND a replacement FOR my replacement(because I will destroy this one too ..I'm surprised it has lasted this long)

www.eluxury.com has a lot of designer fashions. I did not know that those department stores weren't authorized Chanel stores.

With all the info available online these days it gets alot easier to tell the difference between fakes and authentic bags. People probably notice that her purse if a fake, but don't want to be rude and point it out.

They are authorized to sell Chanel in store, just not online. No one is, it's quality control.

Comparing Coach to Chanel is like comparing an Audi sedan to a Bentley. An Audi is still a very nice car that anyone would love to have, but it's not the very best. Coach is known for their great leather craftsmanship at more affordable prices. Coco Chanel was arguably one of the biggest forces in fashion. Ever. Big difference.

For the record, I do not own any Chanel purses (only shades so far ) and have a few Coach ones. Just saying they are not quite in the same league. IMO anyway.

Moet - there is one Chanel outlet in the states at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in NY. It's hit or miss and good stuff usually sells fast. On the forum I posted, a lot of girls will post what's available when they make a trip. You can call the store and have it shipped to you if you see something you like.

    ETA: Down with fakes!! Ew.

I'd rather carry some cheap thing from Wal-Mart than carry anything fake. I love nice purses but no way in hell will you ever catch me carrying a fake one.

We all have things we think are worth spending our money on. I would never think of spending tons of money on a PSP like my brother did right when they came out and I doubt he'll ever spend a ton of cash on a pair of shoes or any other item of clothing.

Sounds like a plan, start getting your stuff in order...I plan to be up there around New Years or right afterwards when all the stores start to mark down the merchandise to make space for spring/summer items.

Latina mentioned Woodbury Commons- great place. Especially when they have what you want.

Ditto ! That's why you've got to change it up from time to time..If you really want something no one has, go vintage ! When I wear my vintage pieces I always get compliments and it's not something anyone else can just in walk in and buy/purchase..

I have this green Prada bag that is a total fake, got in Meheco ( that's Mexico, trying to be funny..LOL) for 25 bucks and I always get complimented on it ! No one knows it's a phony but, me and now all of you ..

The Chanel stuff is different, I can ALWAYS spot a fake. Something about it is not quite right.

I see people with fake Louis' all the time, and I think they look tacky. I don't have any designer purses, I don't think they're worth the money. I just bought two new purses from Pacific Sunwear on clearance for 10 dollars each. They will last me a long time.

Whatever, any time we have a thread about designer items, those type of comments always pop up To each their own.

Nope. I really don't care for them either, and rarely even carry a purse.

not to sound rude but, you can usually spot a fake bag by looking at the person who is carrying it. by that, i mean, if a seriously white trash girl with a dirty kid is carrying a designer purse, i doubt it's real.

Is it bad that I would never spend $1000 on a purse, but I would at a swarovski store?

No, that's not where I was going..I used to do some of my best shopping in my old Cal track suit. I remember one time going into bebe in the city before it went trendy, back when they had suits and clothing made in France, rare pieces you couldn't find anywhere else..Not the mass produced stuff they sell now..Anyway, I was shunned by the saleswomen and they looked surprised at my clothing selection. I guess they thought I was there to steal something, who knows..Once I was happy with my selection I allowed the chick to take it to the register for me..I'm not going to say how much it cost but, I could afford it and my lifestyle for that matter..I looked at them and told them "the first thing in business it to never judge a book by it's cover" ...Before I knew it everytime I'd come into the store I was greeted at the front door and they knew me by name, would call when a new shipment was coming in to see if I wanted something held, once they knew my style they'd put a few pieces to the side for me. They'd even have toys (behind the desk) and cookies for the kids when I'd bring them with me..That's pretty much how my retail experiences go. I'd do the same thing if my commission depending upon keeping my customer happy. That's something most of us miss out on when it comes to dancing.

So, I know you weren't trying to be rude..But you were..Many of the chicks I've danced with looked like "white trash" and they banked. We had many shopping trips together and money was never an issue.

I was refering to the workmanship, stitching and placement of the logos in my post.

stands for: Ambition to Create Novel Expressions, and the "logo" really isn't visible, unless I've missed something. I prefer People for Peace anyway, when I can find ones that actually stretch.

As long as you don't blow all your money on it, it's not a bad idea to invest in one or two classic purses, one brown and one black.

I have a black Bottega Venetta bag that I've had for almost two years that I wear all the time. The leather is incredibly soft and it still looks new. It cost $1800 (yes, you read that correctly) but it's the only purse I've ever had that I've used so much and still looks great. And it goes with almost everything. And it's a classic.

I also have a brown Tod's bag that was $1,100. I've had that for over a year, traveled with it and thrown in around and it also has held up incredibly well. Neither have flashy logos on them.

I bought a bag at Target this past July for $35 that I loved and it started falling apart last month.

So while you don't always get what you pay for, certain brands definitely have better workmanship than others.

Chanel bags are typically made very well and hold up nicely if you take care of them. I don't own any, but I have met several people that do and a few of them also had a bag or two passed down from their mothers and the bags still look good today.

Consider it an investment piece and enjoy it. Just don't make a habit out of it.
