I have been curious about trying ghee butter, particularly as an eye bath, although it has potential for many other uses...
Has anyone had any experiences with ghee butter?

No, naan is a flat, soft, chewy bread. The outside gets flaky and the inside is doughy. If you drizzle it with ghee and top it with garlic, it tastes like heaven. It's never occurred to me to use ghee as a beauty product though!

sure, what do you wanna know about it?
You can make it yourself with regular butter, just FYI. Ghee is simply clarified butter - i.e. butter with the milk solids removed and the water cooked off. It's especially great to cook with, because it's the milk solids that can burn at higher temperatures. larified butter has a much higher smoke point.
Easy to do, useful, and keeps well!
Slice 1 stick of butter into pieces. Heat butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat until it crackles and bubbles. Remove pan from heat & carefully skim off the fat foam that has risen to the top. Pour or spoon the clear liquid into a container, leaving the thicker milky stuff at the bottom, OR pour through cheesecloth in a sieve. Discard the solids. Voila!

honestly it's easier just to buy it a desi grocer- it's cheap and you don't have to go through all the work.

"Bathing the eyes in ghee is an exotic and soothing experience that greatly eases chronic eye dryness, mental tension, eyestrain and glaucoma. It also is said to nourish the nervous system, brain and increase memory. A dough goggle is place around the eyes and filled with pure, organic warmed ghee."

I just want ensure that the ingredients I use are of the purest caliber, since it would be going in my eyes, which I am a little nervous about.
I went to a luxury salon recently where they offered this treatment, but was in a rush and didn't have the time.
Thanks again for the info RoseWhite.

However, I am now wondering which would be more "sanitized". The one which is premade or a homemade version as RoseWhite suggested.
Have you ever tried it dfb?

Ghee is apparently good for thyroid and adrenals too. I heard eating it is good for it but according to a couple of site, it's good topically too - on the neck. Don'tcha know I put some on last night before I went to bed! haha. Put some on my adrenals too.
nobody eally "sanitizes" ghee. I mean, sinc making the stuff occurs at high heat, a lot of bacteria is cooked off. like any food, though,t here is always the possibility of it collecting bacteria, but in India we leave the stuff out forever.
oh and if you do it homemade, another problem is you have a LOT of it. a lot a LOT A LOT.
trust me, it's best to buy it. even we just buy it. nobody really makes it anymore unless you need a ton of it. like we make our own yogurt, 'cos we eat a shit ton of it, but ghee is terrible for you. it's best just to buy it and not have shit tons of it hangin' around.
try not to get a heart attack, homie!
ps- my keyboard is whack, so my typing might be missing letters, etc.
Yes, I figured that, it's just that I am not sure in how much faith I have in the ingredients they use in the manufacturing process of butter/margarine in general.
Is it butter or margarine that is used to make it?
I know that some butters have really high water content, so I could potentially be cooking the butter for hours (?) only to end up with a few tablespoons of ghee (?).
LoL.

.
LoL, literally!
Thank you for the LoLs the_dfb:.

oooh, definitely butter. the butter in India is different than here, though. I would think, if you get an organic euro butter you could do it, though. you're right- have no faith!
really, just buy the dang stuff.
It does have a multitude of uses, but as you cold imagine, when you have a shit ton of it, you get creative to get rid of the stuff.
personally, being so westernized, I hate the taste of it, feel of it, etc. it's grittier than what you might be thinking.
I guess you could do an ye bath with it. many people in India use food products on their skin, but it's because the stuff they use is INCREDIBLY natural. when you go to the grocer definitely chat them up and tell them you want something natural. they might have some ghee there that they've made themselves. never hurts to ask, I guess.
make sure you like the stuff before you get it, though, 'cos according to m,the shit STINKS. like I HATE the smell of it and if you put it on your face, you'll probably be smelling like ghee for a hot minute.
you're welcome for the loller coaster!
