Default Please Help...black and blue marks!!?

Hey guys. Last night was my first night dancing, ever!
It went really well but at the end of the night, I noticed that I had all these black and blue spots around my knees. I didn't do much pole work and I have no idea what these marks could be caused from. Maybe the shoes I was wearing? They were stilettos and I am not used to wearing them for 8 hours at a time. Anyway, I am supposed to work again tomorrow night, so any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Newbie bruises. We all got them. It's from being on your knees doing floorwork, banging yourself up.

You can get arnica gel at natural food stores and rub it in the bruises a few times a day to fade the bruising fast. There are also arnica pills you can take. Ice and painkillers will help too. Your body will get used to it, trust me.

Yeah I was so bruised up when I started. On my legs from the floor, on my back from the floor, on my hip from the pole. Your body gets used to it like zxcire said, but Ido still get the bruises on my shins from time to time, they just go away alot faster.

    Yup, definitely bruises.

I agree. Arnica does help. Although I've never tried the gel version. Only the cream one.

Yes, get arnica gel. It's in a little white container with a yellow label (or at least the kind I get is). In the meantime, you can wear stockings with your outfits to cover them up.

One of the girls at my club told me not to use Arnica because it does something funky with the heart rate...?

Overdose on tincture of arnica can cause vomiting and increased heart rate...

maybe that's what she meant, but to get to that point you have to take a lot internally, usually liquid.

Good to know! I've wanted to try some for a long while but she scared me out of of it lol. I'm very pale and I don't want to tan to have to cover my bruises!

It should be fine, but watch out for blisters, peeling, etc. if you use a lot.

    It can irritate sensitive skin.

Your only supposed to apply a small amount to the bruise twice a day. So I can't see it causing problems.

HAHA!! Cally, they don't care! According to what I hear from everyone, you're not the one to blame. And I mean from staff I hear this! You're still talked about nicely. Like I told some of the servers that she was leaving for Winnapeg again and their first response was "I give it a week." And honestly, I don't think she really said anything bad about it. I think all she said was that she was missing her kids and came home.

Do take a Vitamin C supplement every day.

Do NOT take aspirin, ibuprofen (Tylenol) or any other type of blood thinner before you go to work.

If you smoke or drink a lot, that will also allow bruising more easily.

Ibuprofen is NOT Tylenol. It's a different class of medication.

As already stated Tylenol is not ibuprofen. Advil is ibuprofen. Also just about any and all pain medication has ASA in it which is what makes your blood thinner.

Just drink lots of water, use arnica, maybe even a blanket on stage or stockings or thigh high boots as padding.

Last night I was talking with a guy and she asked me if I knew the girl on stage, I didn't. He said "I'm really worried that her bf's beating her up, look at all her bruises." They were all stripper bruises (at least I think, they were all in areas where I get them) I had to explain to him that our job beats us up sometimes. It made me think of this thread though.
