    Default Cymbalta

A friend told me that her Dr put her on this for pain management. It is working very well for her. My Dr tried a cpl anti-depressants on me(since many of them have pain management side effects) and none had any effect on me..of course

I'm really sick of taking painkillers and worried about long term side effects from taking them, so if I could transition to something else it would be great. I'm just afreaid my stupid high tolerance will not allow me to feel anything from any drug that isnt as potent.

Is anyone here on this? Any reviews? I have a Dr's appt in a week or so and will mention it to him but it would great to hear first hand experiences....

My boyfriend's been on it for depression/anxiety and it's one of the very few things that have done anything for him but I don't know much else :-/

I've never heard of Cymbalta being prescibed for physical pain management as it is a pretty strong anti-depressant. As with any medication for depression, a loss of libido and weight gain are the most common side effects for women. If I remember correctly, Cameron aren't you the Irish woman with a high tolerance for medication? The long & short term effects of this class of drugs doesn't seem worth it to me, but i'm not a doctor.

This may be a bit controversial, but have you considered medical marijuana to help alleviate your pain? There are certain strains that do wonders for my back that cannot compare to the strongest painkillers i've taken.

My personal experience with it was not good at all.

I felt zombie-like on it and generally unpleasant. The best comparison I have was it felt like coming down hard from E. After two weeks, I just couldn't stand it anymore.

Of course, everyone's experience is different.

Cameron, I take Effexor XR which is similiar chemically to Cymbalta. I have had chronic pain from endometriosis and notice that my tolerance to pain is much higher than it use to be. It don't think it's like a narcotic being that it actually relieves the pain itself. I think just like any anti-depressant it helps to put a damper on things so you can deal with them better. I think pain would be included.

Yes I do have a high tolerance. And pot isnt an option for me. It has no effect on me except to make me sick.

Because I have a high tolerance, the side effects likely wont hit me either. Thats the ONE up side to having such a tolerance.

But I suppose I'll just ask my Dr.

    Thanks all!

Well I asked my Dr about this today and he wholehearedly agreed that I should be on this. He said it should take the edge off both my stress and my pain..AND they have had great success with it for gastrointestinal issues...so it may help my pancreatitis as well.

Cameron - It really depends on what kind of pain you're having. Cymbalta is frequently used for nerve pain. It is FDA approved for peripheral neuropathy, which is pain from damage to small nerves. Be careful taking it...... some people become suicidal on the medication. I've had a few patients of mine get really psychotic after only one or two doses.
