what will biking do to my ass and thighs? bigger, smaller, firmer rounder?
what will biking do to my ass and thighs? bigger, smaller, firmer rounder?

It all depends on your startig point. It'll make your butt rounder and firmer. The size will have to do with how big/small you are to begin with and how you eat.
I'm not sure about riding a bike outdoors, but I did indoor spinning for a year or so and it definitely made my thighs bigger. I was in great shape, but when I stopped, I went back down to a more petite size.

Yeah, out of curiousity, what kind of biking do you mean? I can only offer my experience with indoor as well, since I've not done outdoor regularly. I've always done the horizontal bike and I compare it somewhat to a horizontal stairclimber. The muscles I work really depend on my form and what I'm targeting. If I position myself a certain way and pedal a certain way (using the pedals as more of a guide, but letting my abs take the work), I get an ab crunch. Also, it depends on how I'm pedaling, rather than just pushing away from my body, I make sure to let each leg "complete they cycle", meaning that I push the pedal away but make sure to draw it all the way around and pull back in towards my thigh. When I do this, my thighs get an awesome toning exercise and my butt lifts higher.
Hope this helps.
Depending on how much you do, it can give you firm, well-defined thighs, more defined calves and an ass that can crack walnuts! Pick up a cycling magazine and look at the riders. You'll notice smaller upper bodies - chest, arms - huge, muscular, defined thighs on the sprint specialists, firm glutes and well-defined calves - but these will be the elite riders. A recreational rider will get some benefits, but not to those extremes. Climbing specialists won't have the huge thighs because they tend to be lighter. Check out Lance Armstrong.
I was heavily into riding a few years ago. Keep your rpms in the 80-100 range, make sure the bike is well fitted to you with correct seat height, and don't overdo it in the beginning. You need to get your "taint" conditioned to time in the saddle. Don't overload your knees by dropping much under 80 rpm and try to not go below 60 rpm.
Cycling is my favorite fitness activity. I used to be able to max out the Lifecycle at the gym (30-min hill profile) and easily knock off 30 - 50 miles several times a week.

I cycle about 300 miles/week. The idea that cycling will give you massive thighs and a huge ass is a big misconception... as the poster above stated. It is an awesome way to build an amazing lower body. Are you talking about road biking or just getting a hybrid or cheap mtn bike?
I'm not sure..... probably just biking outside, but perhaps at a gym....
I'm glad it won't make my thighs way bigger, that's what i needed to hear
thanks for all the advice![]()
That might be true for outdoor biking, but for indoor cycling I've seen plenty of people get larger thighs and asses from it. Don't get me wrong, they were in great shape, but I can't imagine that anyone goes into it because they want a bigger butt. Like I said, my legs were much bigger when I was spinning 2-3 times a week.

YES!! The two are very different, mainly because indoor cycling involves a lot of heavy climbing and resistance at lower rpms, and outdoor road cycling may involve climbs, but the rpms always stay high; thus, the muscles don't get ginormous; but instead they lean out. I hope that makes sense...
