Default What helps drain the lymph system ?

Who'd have thought 12 days out of the yoga room would've caused my body to react like this..But my lymph noids are out of wack and I need to reduce the build up. My butt is swollen, my upper thighs, my stomach and my upper arms..I know part of it has to do with my up coming period but, alot is due to this damn stress ! Any advice suggestions ??

I'm already taking Dandelion Root need to take more, I've been slacking on it and my vitamin C. I need to audition this weekend.

I'm going to head to the beach and do yoga as soon as I'm done with all my errands today and I finish watching eBay auctions for the kids costumes.

    dry skin brushing
    trampoline bouncing

If I think of anymore, I'll post again. i'm not sure if it "drains" the system but it helps to free the lymph system up for detoxification purposes.

There's a yoga/kundalini move you can do that stimlutes the lymph in your armpit area. It's like - reaching your arms overheads and then *beating* your armpits closed (elbows bend in twds waist). This sounds weird I know.

I don't have a brush, can I use a loofah instead and should I do it before my bath or after ? Also how much time should I spend on each area ?
Lastly do you think me eating once a day has anything to do with the changes ? I was eating 5-8 small meals and snacks, now it's more like one big meal and no fruits or veggies..I gotta go to the store.

Loofah before you shower. Circular motions eventually moving towards your heart. Start with your extremeties. It's really relaxing so you'll do it for a few minutes. I'm not sure if there's a hard fast rule about it.

Regarding that yoga move, I'm pretty sure you're sitting in a lotus position. I'm not sure how important that is though. There are a lot of lymph glands concentrated in the armpit and groin area. So I think the stimulation of the armpits in the expercise is what's most important.

Exercise in general is supposed to get the lymphatic system working. Rebounding is supposedly the best but I've never understood how it was more effective than other exercise. Fortunately I teach urban rebounding once a week!

Diet: Have you ever read "Fit for Life"? It's Natural Hygiene eating. It's like a detox method of eating. Vegan (or not), mostly raw and during certain times of the day. Only fruit/juice until noon. And then your meals until 7 or 8 p (I might be wrong on the ending meal time) to go with the body's natural phases. It's totally unscientific but I've always liked it for keeping my skin tame. If you google "natural hygiene diet" you'll come up with a bunch of links. Or check out "Fit for Life."

Have you ever taken dance? For the yoga move your arms pretty much start in 5th position.

For lymph, I think what's key is stimulation without creating strain and tension. That's what I gather from the things I've read. Gentle but stimulating movement.

Yes, ballet, modern,African,hip-hop,jazz, improv.that reminds me you'd asked that question before and I've been so caught up w/ this drama I'd forgotten to answer..Sorry.

I don't have access to a trampoline but, would jumping on the bed do the same thing..( I'm a big kid at heart ) Also, there is a mini-gym here with treadmill, bike and a precor type machine which one(s) do you suggest ?

I'm googling Fit for Life now, I'm not sure if I've read it. I usually do follow the guidelines you suggested in your post minus the stop eating at 7-8 part..I'm usually working, if I don't eat my sugar level drops too low and I wake up sick.

I googled it and no, I 've never read the book..But I will it seems VERY interesting. I'm going to search eBay for it now. I was loosely diagnosed with Fibromyalgia by a doctor who treats me for nerve damage and I'm interested to see what this book has to offer ..Thanks for the recommendation

I was told by my reflexologist that my lymph system keeps backing up because of my antiperspirant. So, reluctantly, I switched to deodorant and it's gotten much, much better.

I have to do a lot of vigorous massage on myself.

First thing in the morning, before you get out of bed, you rub your chest, breasts and clavicle areas extremely vigorously...do this for about 3-5 minutes. Then, you get into the shower (as warm as you can stand it) and scrub your body (lightly). When you get out, you take your towel and vigorously dry off your back for several minutes (unless you have someone who can do that for you). 3 times a day, you lay with your feet elevated above your heart for 30 minutes. You take a vibrating massager and massage your hip areas, your lower abdominal area, and the tops, sides, and backs of your thighs. Do this for around 10-15 minutes every night. Get a foot roller and massage your feet for around 5 minutes (per foot) each night. A "spike" ball for massage on the hands (palms, backs) is needed as well. I also massage the webs of my fingers and toes every night. Those are points for the lymph system. It may hurt a bit at first, but as your system gets moving again, you'll notice that it hurts less and less until you don't even notice it anymore. Get a wedge pillow and sleep with your feet up.

This has done amazing things for my body. I literally dropped about 10 pounds (in water retention, etc) after doing this. My energy came back and I feel good.

    Hope that helps!!

LOL, I know what you mean...with 2 active kids here, I laughed when my reflexologist said that. So, I try to put my feet up for an hour when Adrian is napping (and I read to Makayla) and then for about 40 minutes before bed. Just do it when you can.

I just wanted to say thanks ladies..I followed many of your tips and when I got back home I noticed my face was slimmer, my back wasn't puffy, my butt was almost back to normal and best of all my thighs weren't touching !

I got some fruits and veggies while I was out..Going to eat the veggies tonight and save the fruit until the morning. I'm going to do the dry brushing/loofaing again before I go to bed tonight.. Anyway..I feel like I need to give you 2 a bigger thank you so here it goes..

This is a part of the system you cannot really control. Stay hydrated. There is no magic cure. We are womens, we puff n shit.

I KNOW !! That's the one part I hate about being a lady..
I did let myself get dehyrated though and I was eating starches rather than the fruits and veggies I normally do..Not to mention I slacked off on my vitamins, that reminds me to take them now..I won't allow this to happen to me again. No way !

You could always try lymphedema therapy.

    I'm happy you're already noticing a difference.

Regarding jumping on the bed .... um, it can't hurt! You mentioned the cardio equipment at your gym. Do whatever feels best. I would say use whatever gives you the most range of movement. My preference is always the treadmill but a lot of people prefer the elliptical. The bike seems too constricting to me. But whatever you enjoy and feels best for you is right on.

The deodorant thing is important too. Or the non-use of it is important (but it's hard for me to stick to).

I rarely use convential deodorants/ anti-persperant. My doc told me to avoid them when I was going through chemo.

I walked on the beach and laying in the Sun helped too. The sand here is so hard to walk in but, it makes for a good work out my legs feel like I've been lifting..I'm going to walk on the treadmill at a boosted incline tonight.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

You can probably buy it at a health food store near you. If you need to make it though you take dried poke root, cover with five parts alcohol, wait two weeks, and then take a half dropperful twice a day (adjust to your own body). After six weeks you can strain the tincture and put it in a bottle.
