Default Having a tough time staying hydrated..any suggestions ?

I'm having a tough time staying hydrated. It started mildly but, it's gotten worse. I'm getting headaches and I even woke up with a leg cramp last night ..I'm drinking water but, it's not helping to actually rehydrate me. I don't drink sports drinks either, it's too hard for my body to process the sugars used to make them. I'm eating watermelon and will be drinking a 32 oz cup of h2o with 4 packets of emergen c. I did the same thing yesterday but, no real difference. I think including a drink with my dinner 3 different times has caused this or at least worsened the problem.

    Suggestions please ..

Taking any medication that causes this? Do you drink caffeinated anything including tea?

No, I'm not taking the prescribed Morphine, it was making me feel bad. I did have a big cup of decaf the other day. But I don't drink caffeinated drinks.
Now that you mentioned it, I was a bit dehyrated from being in the hospital, they didn't let me drink anything all day when I was there and I was on a bunch of pain meds. I think it's gotten much worse sense then. Not to mention had a drink w/ dinner for 3 nights straight. I usually don't do that.

Try to eat more foods with more sodium in them. Sodium helps you retain fluids.

Any time I have leg cramps it's because I need potassium. Try a baked potato.

I try to eat foods with a high water content. Stews, soups, and veggies are all good.

If you are dehydrated, 32 oz of water is not nearly enough. Your minimum intake should be 64 oz on a normal day and ideally should be an ounce of water per pound of weight.

    Hey Farrah
You can try adding a pinch of celtic or Himalyan salt to a liter of water. You won't taste the salt. If you can taste it, too much was added. The minerals should help you absorb the water.

Try smart water. It has added electrolytes or well salt that you can't taste. I keep it in my fridge at all times.

I think you're right ! Thanks for the suggestion. I read in an article today that women need 4,700 mg of potassium daily. I know I get no where near that amount on a daily basis.

    Increase your veggie/fruit intake.

Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in oz.

I wouldn't advise the salt...unless it's Himalayan...because of the inability for the body to fully process those salts (water retention is not always good).

Sounds like you're on the right track. Really watch that water intake!!

It's so hard because I don't feel like eating anything, heat always curbs my hunger..I'mtrying to drink more water but, it feels like an up hill battle..I keep drinking and drinking and drinking. I wish there was a way to get hydrated quicker. It's hard to deal with this and the heat too.

It's funny, I don't think I have ever heard a girl call her own urine piss before. Sorry, not trying to threadjack, was just funny to me.

Anyways, yes, more potassium and way more water! The mineral/smart water is a good thing to try. Hope you feel better hun.

So quick up date..Been drinking more water, I usually drink about a gallon..I have done that in weeks. Also, eating more fruits including bananas. I drank a huge container of fresh squeeze carrot juice yesterday and I'm on my way to start my day off with a huge container of freshly made oj.

I just wanted to be hydrated a lot quicker..I doesn't feel good to be dizzy and all the other effects of dehydration.

    for your help !
