    classical music

I know nothing about classical music, but I listen to it when I am studying. So I have been listening to free podcasts from WGBH in Boston on itunes, I think I like Debussy. Any suggestions for other composers to check out. I like classical guitar too, but I don't know what to search for.

If you like Debussy you might also like Ravel. They are the most notable composers generally considered Impressionists. What types of piece jump out at you? As in instrumentation - Solo, chamber? Piano, strings, etc? What was the tempo?

Chopin rocks. Try some of his nocturnes. That's just a guess though, because I love Chopin and think everyone should.

Andres Segovia is probably foremost classical guitarist who's ever lived. There are tons of recordings by many performers of his work. Eliot Fisk is a notable performer. If you like flamenco maybe Isaac Albéniz, Paco de Lucia, and there's a guy whose name escapes me but he's the one I want to recommend the most. Well if it comes to me later I'll post again.

If you want something different, fun & with a little dramatic flair try Dvorak ("a" with an accent aigu.. he's czech) or Tchaikovsky!!!

If you want some crazy awesome stuff, try some modern opera. Right now my favorites are Benjamin Britten (Midsummer Night's Dream, Billy Budd are some great operas) and a composer named John Adams wrote an AMAZING minimalist opera called Nixon in China.

Ahh, the name is Luis Salinas, here's some clip of him on a talk show playing solo.

I love Ernesto Lecuona, for music in the spanish idium(he's cuban). Suite Andalucia is EXQUISITE!

CHopin is another all time favorite... Nocturnes, waltzes, mazurkas, all good for light work!

Really though, I'm asucker for the Russian Romantics. Tchaikovsky, Shostakovitch, Mussorgsky, Khachaturian, Rachmaninoff.

More modern suggestions? Benjamin Britain has GREAT choral stuff, David Diamonds Rounds for Strings is great, and John Corrigliano has a LOT of fun stuff, both film scores, and concert pieces.

If you're into guitar pieces, try Bach or Vivaldi--both wrote some amazing Baroque pieces for solo guitar (originally lute, but nowadays more often played on guitar), as well as small-ensemble pieces that include or feature guitar. Bach's lute suite in E minor is especially droolworthy.

I second the Isaac Albeniz...also, Arturo Marquez: Danzon #2 (orchestral, but similar in style to a lot of the Spanish guitar pieces.) And anything by Joaquin Rodriguez...especially the Concierto de Aranjuez. Or Handel's cantata "no s'emendera jamas" and Hector Villa-Lobos' "Bachianas Brasilieras #5" both for guitar, cello and soprano.

One last guitar suggestion: any of Sharon Isbin's recordings.
