I disagree. Hiding it makes it seem like there is something wrong with it. Children certainly dont need to know the details of ANY adult sexual relationship...but knowing that Uncle Dave and Uncle Steve love each other the same as Mommy and Daddy do teaches compassion and understanding.

^^ I can understand that. I guess my problem with the whole thing is the fact that it isn't of any relevence to the stories. The stories weren't based on Dumbledore, they were based around Harry. And it's such an off the wall comment to make. There was just no reason to bring up the subject.
Well. A) I refuse to accept the premise that knowledge that there are men who love other men and women who love other women is innately unwholesome for children to know. B) a child asked her if Dumbledore had ever been in love and she answered.

Well, Harry Potter is kind of allegorical to the Nazi regime. Nazis targeted homosexuals, as well as others whose lineage was not deemed worthy. It sounds pretty fair to me to include a gay character.

I didn't read the books so I never knew that. I thought she was making a statement about today's fascists and extremists.
kaiarose, believe me, children are in contact with children who are gay so it's not a big deal to them until the adults start making a big deal about it. They're OK until they're taught to be fearful and hate.

Oh yeah, and the books that make very very subtle allusions to homosexuality are vanilla compared to some of the badly written slash fanfics out there. Even if the characters are written to be straight as arrows, you will always find plenty of fanfiction involving Ron, Hagrid, Harry, and Dumbledore making a daisy chain.

I did not know that she was asked that question. My bad. I was watching msnbc or one of those news channels and they never mentioned that she was asked that question. They made it sound as though she were having some sort of conference and just announced it for no reason. That's what I hate about these news channels, they leave out important details so that the story has more controversy.![]()
