"I'm teaching fools some basic rules. / I believe in the Golden Rule. The man with the gold rules. / I made a little money.
And like the Bible says, I was enjoying the fruits of my labor. This is my comeback. This is me doing what I love to do." -- Mr. T
"In the street I am my divine self. In the club I am a stripper, portraying a fantasy.
That's not to say anybody can do or say anything to me but it's acting. Playing a role. That simple." -- Pure![]()

MRSA isn't a "new" staph bacteria. It has been around for a LONG time. It just happens that the media has recently latched on and started running with it. It's probably a good thing to raise awareness though, it really is a pretty big problem.

Oh. Ok.
There's a lady I know of, she got a 'flesh eating' disease from a staph. Not this one.

yup MeRSA was supposedly 'selectively bred' in hospital environments, where basic staph infections are common and where the use of every antibiotic in the catalog takes place on a daily basis. Thus any staph germs that managed to mutate enough to survive all of these antibiotics are VERY difficult to treat. This is one of the reasons that I will probably never go back to being a Respiratory Therapist. My mom actually contracted MeRSA several years ago as a result of having surgery in a hospital, and STILL has to take rotating antibiotic doses to keep it from flaring up.
Right now in New York the state DOE is disinfecting public schools because MeRSA infections have been turning up right and left. Exposure to MeRSA in a strip club environment is probably not a huge deal if common precautions are taken (i.e. wash hands ... wash the POLE !!!). However, in high mileage clubs and especially in 'extras' clubs the risk of MeRSA exposure is undoubtedly higher.
Just wash you damn hands.
Thank the IV drug users of Detroit for MRSA....that's where the first cases popped up years ago. A lot of the media hoopla has been over ca-MRSA - infectious disease's name for community acquired MRSA - a skin infection that is being treated with a common antibiotic, but one not typically used for skin infections. The problem is when the risk of MRSA is not recognized and the infections are not treated appropriately or at all and the infection can spread systemically. Many cases have come out in athletes...sharing gym equipment, training mats and locker room facilities, especially with abraded skin. The main prevention is still the most basic...good hygiene, frequent hand washing and keeping hard surfaces clean.
I had MRSA last March- I lived. Not to say I wasn't lucky to be able to fight it off quickly and have a type that was NOT resistant to every antibiotic...but it's not a death sentence! If you're otherwise healthy, there isn't any reason to freak out.

I Posted this already on another thread but I thought it was more appropriate here......
No one has died from the MRSA staph infection here in Florida but a few kids in schools in Martin County......just north of Palm Beach contracted it, and now just recently a girl from Boca Raton in Palm Beach County was diagnosed. I know so far its only been young people in schools becoming ill with it but I can't help but feel a bit freaked.
I was feverishly washing my hands at work on Friday and I mentioned to one of the waitresses about MRSA and she just gave me a blank stareand told me she had no idea what I was talking about. I mentioned it was all over the news but she just continued with the blank stare.
I guess ignorance is bliss. I wish I could live blissfully on ingnoramous land.

Oh well. All we can do is make sure we wash our hands frequently and thoroughly.

^ um, ok, if you think washing your HANDS when your BODY is touching other people makes sense...![]()

Bottom line is you should always wash your hands.![]()
A little helpful advice......As far as helping to prevent catching this nightmare of an infection I think using antibacterial hand sanitizer on your legs and on the rear or any other place a dancer feels may have come in contact with another persons skin would be helpful.
IM just trying to be helpful.![]()
Well, since we often put our hands in our mouths and touch our faces, think about it. Where would you rather have MRSA leave a nasty-looking scar? On your body or on your face? I know what I prefer.
Big pharma has focused all its R&D on blockbuster medications guaranteed to generate huge profits. Antibiotics weren't viewed as big moneymakers; hence the technology has lagged behind and now they're scrambling to play catch-up.
There's some research that manuka honey may be effective against MRSA:

MRSA is really big at military bases. Any girls working in military towns be very careful.
