Default POTW is...Susan Wayward! Come on down!

It runs from Sunday to Sunday so when it is your turn to be POTW you will be in the spotlight for a whole week.

Everyone can ask questions and it is up to the POTW to decide if they would like to answer them. Some questions may be too personal and that is fine - you don't have to answer everything.

This thread is not an appropriate forum to settle old scores or to flame. Do not bait the POTW with questions that bring up past transgressions. Please spin-off if you feel the need but let's keep this thread fun and supportive.

On Friday of each week I will PM the current POTW and ask them to choose the next person. The POTW can choose anyone who asked a question on their thread that week and someone, preferably, who has not been chosen in the past year. If you do not wish to be POTW you can still ask questions, just let the current POTW know that you do not want to be chosen for the next week (for instance, you will be out of town).

    Previous POTW:

    1. Fresh. I like all kinds of food and would be hard-pressed to even name a favorite style!

    2. Pretty often. I just had a couple of really nice days in Texas, and in August a couple of weeks on the East Coast.

    3. Yup. I'm still close with my best friends from high school, and I am very close with my sister and my mother.

    1. When I was 18, my father was paying all my bills while I went to school halfheartedly. I had to pretty much do what he said and got yelled at a lot. That's my dad's side of the family in a nutshell; if you want the family spoils you are signing up for the family drama. I thought, "Fuck this. I'm going to get a job that pays my bills," and applied for a cocktailing job at a local club. I got there and looked around -- it was the first time I'd ever been in a strip club, and it didn't look that scandalous to me. Thirty seconds into the interview process I asked the manager if they were hiring dancers, and I went home with a legal thong and a need to do some serious bikini trimming. That was in the summer of 1994, so that's 13 years.

    2. I don't, really. I have chronic depression, so I don't really know the transitory emotion of "sad" as much as I do the one of "not leaving the house for five days."

    3. Dick Cheney.

    4. 5'6"

    5. Dennis Kucinich. If I could choose, and it's my fantasy, I choose him. He's ethical and smart, and by god, you know he's got balls. I just wish.

    1. Most of the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. Mexico, from the border to the DF. England and France. BC, Canada. Ecuador.
Here is a map. Those are all places where I have at least spent a night. I would like to go to New Zealand, Argentina, Iceland, India, and many other places.
My favorite city is London, with the runner up being the one I live in now. The most beautiful places I've been are Alaska and Hawaii. I love for varying reasons Austin, TX, New York City, Memphis, TN. I can't pick a single favorite place, though.

    2. Fried in duck fat.

    3. Funniest experience? You'll have to clarify that a little. Like, happened to me or that I saw? It was pretty fucking funny the time I was dancing for this really funny, cool customer, having a blast, when all of a sudden I realized I knew who he was. I had to tell him who I was, and who my boyfriend was, and he actually stood up and yelled, "OH, MY GOD! I LOVE YOUR BOYFRIEND! [redacted] is awesome!. He did this in the middle of the club. Don't see that often.

    4. Well, duh. "Are you evil or stupid?"

    5. I don't discriminate, but as housepets cats are the way to go for me. All animals are just fine with me. Dogs, horses, rodents, whatever. Goats have a lot of personality.

    Hey Susan!

What's your favorite kind of music?

If you could go to one foreign country to live with unlimited money, where would it be and why?

    What's your favorite magazine? Book?

    1. Broadly, I would say rock. Underground, indie, noisy rock for the most part. I just wrote a blog post about the last CD I burned for the club, and it reflects a lot of my out-of-the club listening. Though lately I have been listening to more dancey stuff than usual. I am a music geek, no doubt about it.

    2. England, because if I could go to any city with unlimited money it would be London. Fabulous music, interesting people, cosmopolitan, and just, like, New York times ten for me. As it stands I'll be settling for a couple of weeks in May for the ATP festivals if I can pull it off.

    3. a) There are dozens of magazines in my household. I could pick a favorite in each genre but I doubt I could pick just one overall. I do have a favorite magazine writer right now, though, and that's Matt Taibbi, the political correspondent from Rolling Stone. Also, Forced Exposure was probably my favorite magazine of all time, R.I.P.
    b) Same with the books. I have a deep love for the early work of Martin Amis. William Boyd is amazing as well. As far as books in recent memory, Middlesex is about as good as it gets. Damascus Gate, by Robert Stone, is also a favorite of mine. But I read a ridiculous amount of crime fiction -- George Pelecanos, Jess Walters, and others. I go through those novels at an insane pace.

    I have heard many good things about Portland and Oregon in general...I would love to visit before I expatriate. With that in mind;

What are your favorite SC, restaurants, etc.?

Who is your fave local band?

If I did visit Portland, what would be Mrs Waywards dream itinerary for a PDX virgin like myself?

    1. Define "special talents." I am not gifted with a talent for music or art but actually can draft patterns for my own clothing and knitwear. I don't know if that's what you're looking for, though.
    2. In my opinion, nothing, really, other than my ineffable Susan-ness.
    3. Yeah, right. Well, I will tell you something no one in the strip club knows about me, which is that I skipped the 5th grade so I finished high school at 16. That does not come up in conversation.
    4. a) This is going to sound really conceited, but I'm pretty happy with all of my physical features. I guess my lips. They're pretty nice.
    b) I am very blunt and while sometimes this makes people assume I am mean, it saves me a huge amount of time.

    1. My favorite SC to visit is also my favorite SC to work in; Mary's Club in downtown Portland. There are too many restaurants to name, but Higgins, Park Kitchen, DF, Castagna, Merriwether's, Piazza Italia, Paley's Place, and Navarre would be good places to start. The restaurants here are ridiculously good -- NYC and SF quality food.

    2. Shit, I'm pretty out-of-touch with the newer local bands. I like Blitzen Trapper all right and the Decemberists are pretty great.

    3. Stay at one of the hotels on Broadway, hopefully sometime when the Farmer's Market is open. Get up on Saturday and go there, and look at all the amazing produce and local meats and cheeses, and buy a dozen tiny cookies from the awesome tiny cookie bakery. Go check out the world-famous Powell's books (it's a whole city block!). Get a sandwich from Acorn. Nap. Go get dinner at Paley's Place or Higgins. Go see a band or a play, then go to Mary's Club.

Sunday: Get up and go wait in a ridiculous line for brunch at Simpatica. It's worth it. If the weather is nice, go to the Rose Gardens. They're gorgeous. If the weather is bad there are a whole bunch of movie theatres and lots of shopping that can be done. Get dinner or late lunch at Navarre where they have gourmet cheesesteaks and meatball subs (not very PNW but tasty!) And of course, go to Devils Point for stripparoke!

No. I moved here in December 2005. The year prior to that I spent in Cincinnati, Ohio, and for many years before that I lived in Austin, Texas. I am a native Texan. Oregon is still shiny and new to me which is probably why I'm still a one-woman chamber of commerce for Portland.

    That works

I also don't think it's conceited to think all of your physical features are great. I wish I was that confident!

It is one of my pet peeves that the women who are hardest on themselves are attractive young strippers. I mean, really, ladies, learn to love your bodies. We all have things we can nitpick on, but if you're proportionate and smooth-skinned, well, you have it pretty damn good.

    1. Do you believe in aliens?

    2. What personality trait or characteristic do you most admire in other people? What do you most despise? (* a question I possibly ripped off from Vanity Fair)

    3. What material item in your possession do you most treasure? (* ditto, maybe...sorry)

    4. What did you study in college/ university?

    5. How much of a donation to your favourite charity would it take for you to shave your head bald? (I am curious about this because I wonder how much I'd go for...I am so f-ing vain, it makes me feel guilty)

Hey, Molly, that's the Proust Questionnaire they use in VF for sure.

    1. I guess they could exist, but I don't think they've been to Earth or are messing with us anally or anything.
    2. Persistence; chastity
    3. My wedding ring.
    4. I was an Economics major for a long time but finally decided to chuck it since I didn't want to take any more math and I knew it really didn't matter what I got my degree in since I was going to be stripping. So my BA is in English with a minor in Economics.
    5. Oh, lord. Whatever it would take to ensure free and open access to accurate sex education and birth control/STD prevention for the youth of Texas, I guess. So probably millions to Planned Parenthood. I don't think I'd do it for $50K to the Humane Society, sorry to say. Unless I was famous and could raise awareness; then I'd do it for less. But assuming the only power I have is the decision to shave my head or not, yes, it would be a lot of money.

Can you craft for me a mantra to repeat whenever I am feeling down on myself (which is a lot lately)?

Edited to add: I was going to ask "Which do you recommend, psychotherapy or pharmas" but decided it was too personal. And then, continuing to browse member boards I came upon TOTH's POTW (which I had missed) and you asked her that!

I will try, and if I succeed I will share it with you. I descended from a Scottish clan whose family crest reads "Si Je Puis" (If I Can), so, um, not so good with amazing motivation here. When I am truly sad I think about the wonderful friends and family members I have who love me, and that always makes me think I can't be all that bad.

I recommend both drugs and therapy. Both have been crucial to me. I hate therapy, btw, the actual process of it, but I cannot argue with the results.
