You are in VERY good company. Been there, done that, it sucks. I really recommend the GUM since it can help to cope with the oral association which is part of the physical addiction.
The reality is that nicotine is physically addictive and cigarettes are psychologically addictive. That means that at some point, if you don't use it you feel worse off (physically and psychologically) and so crave more to ease that feeling. The Gum or Patches can help ease the physical addiction while you cope with the psychological aspects (e.g., habit of smoking at certain times of the day).
Some people can do it cold turkey, but it's brutal.
Oh honey come hereI know how you feel. I'm going to get you a few links that will help. It is hard sweetie but you hang in there.
these places have great help.

Did you prepare mentally? did you just wake up and say "screw it I'm done?"
I know the feeling. I even made my own thread about it a while back. The gum works. Have you tried any kind of aid or are you just trying to quit on your own?

Yes, withdrawal from cigarettes plain out simple SUCK ass. The gum can help some though and worked for me. If at first you don't succeed, make a plan to try again. If you ever do succeed, NEVER go back because as an addictive substance, it's quite easy to get addicted again.

Lexi I feel for you. When I quit I used the patch as well as wellbutrin for cravings, and I still felt depressed and had crying spells. It was worst during the first two weeks and faded after that.
The only thing I can tell you is to hang in there. It will get better but you have to go through it to feel better.

Lexi you're not taking any quit-smoking drugs are you? Im assuming not because you said cold turkey. But I thought I would just double check because certain quit-smoking drugs have caused depression/suicidal tendencies in some people. My aunt was one. She rang her doctor and said she was thinking about killing herself and he told her to stop taking them immediately.
There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.
Cold Turkey is the ONLY way!! If you use gums and patches, you still have nicotine in your system. Trust me, it gets better very soon - it takes 3 days for the chemicals to leave your body and then after that it's all mental. I dealt with it too and I cried, threatened people, etc...but I quit for my whole pregnancy and beyond. I just quit *again* because I started having a few here and there from stress but I swear that if you have cigs around and try to cut down it does not work. It's like, yeah right - who are we kidding? If there are cigarettes in my purse, I will smoke them!
My suggestions are to stock up with lots of healthy snack foods, and don't hang out with people who smoke at least for the first 3 days. Change up your routine if you have to. Give yourself rewards for not smoking (like a new pair of jeans or something after one week and maybe a new laptop after a few months). Think of all the money you are saving. Visit the websites that HHL and Budai posted. Those scary pics and cancer stories help me a lot.
And if you have family, think of how fucking sad they would be if you died!! I think of my daughter and think that she is the main reason I choose to live smoke free. Remember you are worth being healthy and you don't deserve to mistreat yourself over and over by doing something so unhealthy.
YOU CAN DO IT!!

I agree with Alexxa. I bought the Commit Lozenge about a year ago and waited until I was ready to quit. One day I woke up, quit the cigs, and went on Commit. You know, I'm still using that shit!
But honestly, it was never the nicotine that I didn't like. It was the constant smell of smoke, ashtray mouth, and sickness.
