    Default Indianapolis living..

Now I'm thinking of moving here. It's getting more than a little expen$ive here, in the housing prices moving way out of range.
Not really interested in SC's. Just, are there any really bad areas I should avoid, any info on 'regular' jobs? Cost of living? Thanks a lot.

As someone who came somewhat close this past summer to moving there (short version: we broke up) I definitely did my share of looking into stuff.

I can tell you that when I looked just a few months back there were about 120 jobs available at Eli Lilly, the drug company. Big pharma might not be for you, but the economy there seems fairly strong, especially compared to other Midwestern cities.

Don't know much about the "bad" areas, but there's a lot of fun stuff going on in Broadripple. Downtown is pretty safe. Kinda shiny and sterile for the most part, but safe.

I'm hoping Dottie Rebel and Andygirl will weigh in, since they both live there and definitely seem to know their way around town.

I personally think it's a great city. This sounds snotty, but as a New Yorker I didn't think I'd especially like it, but I really did, to the point where I went back to visit friends for a weekend even after my breakup. I'm kinda bummed I didn't get a chance to live there.

Indy is a great town. The cost of living is low compared to a lot of places. You can buy a nice house for $100K or a little less. There is a lot to do as far as restaurants, live music, art, etc. It just depends on what you like to do. As far as "bad areas" there really aren't too many. Of course, that depends on how you define a bad area. There are definitely preferable areas as far as school systems go, etc., but I don't know if that is your concern.

What specific questions do you have? I will try my best to answer them.

    Well, thanks, ladies!
Nina, congrats on the no smoking!
Bad area to me means bascially high crime, houses looking bad, graffitti, gangs, etc. Although, where I live now, really none of the outward signs are there, but believe me I have to watch it, especially at night. It is kindy seedy in some ways, although they're doing some 'improving' but I'm definaately outta here.
Yes, I put a lot in a good school system = good property values.
