I had a friend who was on it instead of xanax. He said it made him a bit sleepier but no real huge problematic side effects.

dr decided you needed this for what? anxiety? thats all ive ever heard of it being used for.
Hmmmm....I have some over here. I might take a little, have some serious anxiety today about all the work I have to do in the upcoming weeks. From my experience, it works pretty quickly and doesn't cause you to drag like valium does.

Yes, for anxiety. The amount of stress I am under is causing me tons of extra pain. He also prescribed Cymbalta, but he said since it takes several weeks for that the get through your system, I should use the klonopin in the meantime
Klonopin was made for seizures, but did not do too well, doctors found out it stays in the body along time (longer than Xanax) so it's now used for anxiety.
It works. It has a long half life. 1mg is a good dose once a day, morning AFTER you get by a week getting used to the sedating effect it has on 90% of patients.
After a while you will just not feel anxious while taking it, and not sleepy or sedated anymore.
I was on Klonopin for a few years with my heart med.
Good luck.

I have some of this but I rarely take it since it's on an as needed basis. Actually with the amount of stress I've been under lately, I need to start using them more often..

My Dr put me on it when I was a teenager. I got them because I was having nightmares and she told me to take it before I went to sleep.

I'm prescribed Klonopin for an anxiety/panic disorder. I've been taking it for about a year and half now. I like it way better than ativan or xanax. I'm supposed to take two .5 mg pills a day, but I only take one .5 pill a day now. When I am really anxious and on edge, like during PMS, I'll take my prescribed dosage of two pills. It has helped me tremendously. I also agree that you shouldn't drive until you know how it effects you.![]()

Equal to what? It is in fact just another benzo drug, more potent mg for mg than some, and not as potent as others.
See above. "Stronger" is not a scientific/medical term. One milligram of clonazepam is approximately equivalent to twenty milligrams of diazepam.
Again, longer than what? It's longer than some, not as long as others. Peak blood levels are at 1-2 hours. I don't need to read previous posts, I know the pharmacology of the benzo drugs well, and anyone who uses this one will know it's just another benzo drug (which it is), and as long as one does not attempt mg for mg doses of one benzo to another and the doc they are being treated by knows these drugs, than it's a moot point. Some people like it, and some don't, and opinions are like you know whats...
Personally, I like the benzos that have a very slow onset and long half life such as lorazepam,
A cunning linguist...
I dont know how you interpret "stronger"...but to most people...equal or greater effect with a fraction of the dose= stronger.
And "just another benzo" is also incorrect. Benzos are very differant and have differant reactions in differant people.
I KNEW it was a benzo. I've tried some benzos that did nothing for me, and some that did. They all have differant reactions and side effects...which is why I asked.
My grandmother gave me one today because I've been having a rough time. For me it just basically throws a blanket on the fire.
Klonopin has a longer half life than Xanax. So, the effects of it will last longer which is why it is less addictive. Xanax has a short half-life and wears off quickly which is why it tends to be abused more.
Valium I believe has the longest half life of the benzos but isn't the drug of choice for those of us suffering with depression. It takes a while for it wear off thus keeping you down longer.
See...this is why I think I might not get anything out of this. I;ve tried Xanax ans valium ands could take them by the handful..might as well be swallowing tic tacs. They had no effect on me at all....
Well...you never know until you try. I'll fill the script tomorrow.
Thanks all for sharing your knowledge and experience!
I love klonopin. I've never had a script for it, my friend was prescribed it for anziety she got before test taking in college. I have panic attacks, so she used to split her script in half with me, which I took on an as needed basis when I had a panic attack.
I loved it. All it did for me was completly stop the attack, worked within 10 minutes I think. Jus..the panic would completly disapate and I would feel calm and normal again. Not high, not drowsy, just normal. It was great.
I wish I had insurance, I'd get another script for it..although I have learned how to control and fight off my panic attacks when I feel them comming on. I can tell myself stop! breathe! And usualy..it works. Unless I wait till it gets full blown, and then it's hopeless.
But yeah..I went off track. Klonopin was great for me. No ill side effects, no high feeling...just calmness.
Well I just hope it takes the edge off before i jump over it....

It's a good drug for anxiety, but it can only be used short-term as the body's tolerance to it builds quickly and the effect gradually becomes less and less. That's why it is just used short term to transition into a longer acting medication, in your case Cymbalta. Like mentioned above, it has a very long half life, approx. 20-50 hours depending on the individual.
I just took a quarter and am very relaaaaaaaaaaxed. Gnight

man, i might try to get this stuff. my psychologist said she'll refer me to a psychiatrist to get anxiety meds, and this seems good. i wanted ativan, but maybe this would be better?
I usually take 1-2 1 mg. tablets for anxiety and sometimes for nausea. It sounds weird, but benzos have always helped me with nausea.
None of which changes the fact they are all "just" benzos. I didn't say all benzo drugs were the same did I? No, but by "just another benzo" = it's a drug in the benzo family of drugs. That's all.
Now, as you have experienced different benzo has different effects on you which may not be the same as they are for others, asking others will not do you much good, but I understand you just wanted feedback/opinions.
Glad you already knew it was a benzo, but I didn’t know that from your post, so I just pointed that part out, and ‘yall jumped all over my sh*&. That’s fine too, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have some women annoyed with me….![]()

^^Ok..well..I asked what peoples experiences were and your contribution was "its just another benzo". What was that supposed to tell me? Like I can look up BENZO and know exactly what it does??
If you didnt have any experiences to share...there was no point in your posting in this thread...you had nothing to contribute.
