Default What song has the most remakes?

In a thread about a new version of Wicked game.... this idea came to me.....

what song has been remade the most times? by whom? which is better?

We'll start with the one that started this idea

Wicked Game - original - Chris Issak

Remakes - H.I.M., Stone Sour, Seether, Giant Drag.. hmmm think I got em all ?

and for me listening I love the original..... in SC HIM without a doubt

I think the Beatles song Yesterday has the most covers. Not that you'd dance to it in a SC.

    Ooh! Ooh!

"Hallelujah", by Leonard Cohen. I adore Leonard, I mean passionately, but I must say I think Jeff Buckley completely owns that song. Sublime.

Off the top of my head, others who have covered it include John Cale (purty), Rufus Wainright (dull), and U2 (horrid).

(Come to think of it, I think Cohen may be up there with Bob Dylan as a most frequently COVERED artist.)

GOOD GOD. I knew there were others besides the ones I thought of initially, but this is what Wikipedia has listed for it.
Among the many other musicians who have performed covers of this song are Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, Maxwell Murder/Saturday's Car Ride Home, Jeff Martin, Alex Lloyd, Sephira, Willie Nelson, Elisa, Beefy, Bono, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi, Bret Darby, Clare Bowditch, Fred Eaglesmith, Steve Acho, Allison Crowe, Patricia O'Callaghan, David Bazan, Jackie Greene, Fiona Apple, John Cale,Julie Felix, Damien Leith, Anthony Michael Hall [1], Bettie Serveert, Custard, k.d. lang, Kevin Max, Gord Downie, Simple Plan, Gov't Mule, Steffen Brandt/Tina Dickow (in Danish translation), K's Choice, Enrique Morente (flamenco version, translated to Spanish), Street to Nowhere, Wayne Whittaker, the Prayerbabies, Kevin Christy, Kathryn Williams, Lucky Jim, Over the Rhine, Pat Terlizzi, Myrra Malmberg, Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, Michael Wolff, The Teamakers, Imogen Heap, Joe Wilson, and Hilary Scott.
I can't decide whether my curiosity outweighs my horror on Anthony Michael Hall . . .

    (Forgive my overzealousness here.)

I also nominate a tie between two Dylan tunes. "All Along the Watchtower" and "Knocking on Heaven's Door".

I respect Dylan deeply, but I could go a good long time without hearing either of the above. By anyone. Though Guns N Roses' version of the latter is particularly nails-on-a-blackboard. "Knock-knock-knockin' on heaven's dooo-wooo-wooor. AYE! AYE! Aye aye yaaah."

I do remember reading somewhere that "Yesterday" IS officially the "most covered song". By whom, I dunno. There's a bajillion covers of "Helter Skelter", too.

This is what Wiki had to say:

"Yesterday" is a song originally recorded by for their album (1965). According to the , "Yesterday" has the most of any song ever written (although there is strong evidence to suggest that aria is in fact that most widely covered song, with in excess of seven thousand recorded covers in existence). In defense of the "Yesterday" claim, however, asserts that it was performed over seven million times in the alone, probably cementing the song as the most performed composition of all time. The song remains popular today with more than 3000 recorded cover versions, the first hitting the top 10 three months after the release of Help!.

So Mr. C is the winner on this one!

Seems like everyone in the world has done a cover of "Hotel California." Like the Dude, I hate the fucking Eagles, but Alabama 3's version isn't half bad.

Oh wow, you and me both! I freakin hate what axl rose did to that song, especially that annoying AYE! AYE! Aye aye yaaah (nice re-creation btw).

To add to the thread, I think the Stones' "Satisfaction" has been covered numerous times. I like Mountain's version, and as much as I loathe Ms. Spears, I actually like her cover of this classic.

Another song that has been covered a million times is the oldie "Some Kinda Wonderful". I always liked Grand Funk Railroad's version (I know, most of you young pups are thinking, who the fuck is GFR....), but my latest favorite cover of this is done by Joss Stone. Heard it first in a SC, and LOVED it.

I heard another cover yesterday in a club that I really liked. It was a cover of "I will always love you" from The Cure. A dancer told me the band is Snake River Conspiracy.

^^ I believe Screamin' Jay was the first, but I could be mistaken. And don't forget the chilling Diamanda Galas cover memorably used in "Natural Born Killers"! Trent Reznor mixed it with "Ted, Just Admit It" by Jane's Addiction for a combined track called "Sex is Violent". Good stuff.

Off topic. Hmm, it's been well over ten years now. I wonder if "Natural Born Killers" is worth a rewatch?
