Default makeup/hair to look less intimidating

lately i've been a little frustrated because my super adorable roommate always banks, when i'm more experienced and i do nowhere near as well. she's 4'11" and very cute, whereas i may have been a model, but guys seem to find me intimidating because of my height (about 6'), being a redhead, and tattoos.

anything i can do to look less intimidating? i don't want to cover my tattoos because i also get a lot of compliments on them and i'm proud of them, but is there a way i can style or cut my hair, or do my makeup, or outfits i can wear that will make me more approachable?

i also can't decide if i should play it up and go for all out punk rock chick. as it is now i'm trying to do a sortof pin-up girl thing, and it looks good, but it's just not sellin'. i'm torn.

    help?

I am always on the lookout for a redhead at the clubs. Why are they so rare? You've got a look that stands out and sounds sexy, work it! A sincere smile always makes a person more approchable.

I totally second this. You sound like a total punk Jessica Rabbit and it sounds pretty hot.

I'm not sure if the punk rock or pin up look would be to your benefit. Can you describe your club (location, clientel, atmosphere)?

lildreamer --are you someone i might know?

i uploaded a couple of pictures. in the first one i have extensions, i don't actually have those anymore but it's a good picture of what i usually look like, how my makeup is usually done

the second one is a picture from a photoshoot i did for a salon, and the third is one of those "aww heck, just for fun" type pictures. that's the one that my hair is closest to presently.

Tattoo's, short hair and piercings are all usually minus's to customers. There are ways to rock it and make it work for you, usually this involves femming it up a lot. I'd go for girly dresses, take out the facial piercing, and stick to softer hair-do's that aren't too edgy(intimidating/scary) to men. The first and last hair styles are better. The middle one will make him assume you wont mesh personality wise, not unless he's hip and artsy too. Most custy's are confused by high fashion artsy style. Stick to the basics. It's okay to be generic at work, you want to appeal to the masses.

i forgot to describe my club! it's in central VA (lildreamer was correct), clientele are mostly blue collar - construction workers, contractors, a lot of them are hispanic, and it's located pretty much in the ghetto.

it's not really a super classy place, but it's no shithole either. i worked at the really ritzy club in town for two nights and HATED it and came back. too big, too slick, too cold. i hate businessmen that won't spend money. give me a generous carpenter any day.

also, here's a picture of me last wednesday, done up all pin up girl at a party!

Why not go for a look similar to the girls of "LA ink"? Like a sexy combination of edginess and pin-up girl. I think that's super hot. It may still be intimidating, but you will just have to work extra hard to appear friendly and approachable.

i love your hair curly. i think that it looks great like that. try a pin up girl flower or a tiara. i always wear one of those and i get lots of compliments! i have full sleeves and dont let my tattoos interfiere with my money making. smile lots! but i do agree tattoos dont hurt your money near as bad as face piercings...

Totally agree with what Zabrina said.

I think you should get a set of clip in extensions, so you have long luscious red hair. It will definitely become a selling feature for you and impart a more feminine vibe. Also, it will be a big change w/o a lot of money or commitment. Any of us who've had some sort of extensions will tell you that it helps with your confidence which means more money. Definitely take out the facial piercing, for work at least. Learn to apply false lashes to give your eyes/face a more doll-like appearance.

What kind of outfits do you wear for work?? Jewelry? Shoes? Any accessories?

ETA: Looked at your pics again. Your brows are so light, I can barely see them!! Get a pencil or shadow & angle brush for redheads (maybe a SW'er can give you a rec?) and fill those babies in!! It will frame your face and show off your eyes. Do it ASAP, brows are so so so important.

I second the extensions...clip in's are cheap, you can get a good set for $50, but they will seriously improve your earnings. Long hair just makes women look more attractive/approachable to men. And you can rock the Jessica Rabbit thing a bit more.

    And ditch the facial piercings.

With the clientelle at your current club (I know where you are!) I'd just find a look that you like and feel comfortable with. If you feel good that will convey to the guys.

Look at the other girls, you don't want to wear an evening gown in there but all those girls wear the same outfit they got from Priscilla's, you don't want to look like everyone else but you also don't want to be to out of place.

Where I'm at alot of girls just throw their outfits together, I don't get super dressed up but I have alot of matching skirt sets for a more put together look. I know I'm looking good when al the girls want to borrow my stuff!

I like Tampadancers suggestion pf the glam pin up look. I've got alot of tattos and that's the look I have. I think you could pull off glam/pin up very well.

If you go with glam pinup look I would get rid of the nose ring.

Its sucks that sometimes we have to sacrifice personal style for making money. Making money is always better as to oppose to keeping personal style. I agree about the nose piercing.

The pin up look would look really hot on you. Also, the color red would look very sexy against your skin tone.

I agree, b/c you can have your personal style out of work. I also agree with the red extensions idea and curls -- playing up girliness. Wow, I never would have guessed those were extensions in the first pic!

I know I've harped it before a few times but since I change my hair color so drastically so frequently I have a lot of experience with eyebrow powders.

Best imo is still Bare Escentuals. Its cheap at 11 bucks and I think goes on well. I like loose powders better though. The red color (auburn I believe) would be perfect. Its not too red and has just the right amount of brown.

I use a cheap ass Sonia Kashuk angled brush from Target and have never had a problem.

I think it will help make your features look more defined and frame your face for sure.

I wish I could dye my hair funny colors and not have to wear a wig to cover it up at work. Or tattoo my entire back. *sigh*
Ruby you're pretty if I didn't mention before.

i actually do color in my brows most of the time at work.

i guess i can go back to a U shaped septum ring that i can flip up into my nose while i'm at work.

where can i get good clip in extensions?
