Default Once a fatty always a fatty?

I am, and always have been a fat girl.
Of course I'm wanting to change that (the whole curious about being a dancer thing!) and for societal(sp?) reasons.
The smallest I have ever been was a size 4 when I was 17. I was taking Pentabosal and working out a lot, but I just do not have the drive anymore . I just bought some Tonalin, and here's hoping that it works.

I was wondering, were all of you always on the thin/average side? Is there anyone else out there who was a fat girl and managed to change and keep the weight off?

    Here's hoping so

    yes! right here

I've kept it off largely because of diet and exercise, but I know I have the potential to blow up again if I'm not careful.

Tonalin isn't really going to do much if you don't put forth the effort, so keep at it!

You can def. keep the weight off after you lose it. When i had a trainer a couple years ago he told me 90% of it is what you put it in your mouth. The other 10% is working out.

I've always been on the thin side in school/work but when I started dancing I was one of the bigger girls at 128 pounds(5'6)...I've been taking tonalin for a couple weeks and the only difference i have noticed is softer skin...no weight lose so far for me! but then again my only workout is work, and i havent been going in much. i eat like shit. I need to take my own advice...*eating cookies as she types this*

I know that I have to work hard to stay slim. I always watch what I eat and try to exercise about 3-4 times a week.

I put on weight easily. When I don't eat healthy and exercise, I can feel and see the weight gain in about a week

I've been small most of my life..That changed along with my metabolism when I got sick..I have to work really hard to keep my fluids in check..It's not fat for me..I find for most women it isn't.. we see weight gain as being fat, when it could be water, waste and lymph. I can easily go from a 3/4 to a 6-8 if I eat the wrong thing(white rice, flour and anything wheat). Imagine that !

I take tonalin but, dandelion is my new best friend. It helps me keep my lymph in check. You might also want to try Bikram yoga, it's the quickest way to lose weight and really keep it off.

Have any of you been really heavy though? As in, over 160 lbs?

I have been working a lot and gotten down, but it's still not enough.

Oh so is that why I put on weight really easily after a couple of meals of pasta or something? Is it mostly just water weight?

Also is Bikram yoga the yoga in the hot room?

160 really heavy? It all depends on your height and body type. I'm 165, but also very tall.

I was like 140 - 150 about 4 years ago and im 5"1ish maybe 5'2" so yea I was a chunky girl. Lots of exercise and watching what I eat helped me get it off... now I have craptastic eating habbits and if I take a week off work I blow up like a balloon but its not too hard for me to get it back off once I go back to work.

I should have clarified to make sure I didn't offend anyone, so sorry!
I don't wear weight well. I have seen some pictures on here and other places of women who were 160+, and still looked gorgeous. I am too short for that to happen And it all goes to my belly, which really doesn't help at all.

    sorry, didn't mean to offend

    "Really heavy" girl right here!

Because of my build, I look best between 160 and 170.

If I got under 160, I would start to look unhealthy.

I've always been small. But I've also always been active.

For me, eating poorly doesn't make me "fat." It makes me pimply and that's HORRIBLE. I stay away from things like wheat/gluten, unfermented soy, dairy, sugar, anything refined, etc. Anything that promotes inflammation. It goes STRAIGHT to my skin.

Everyone else in my family is fat though. They eat differently and aren't as active. I went through a 2 phases of non-activity and bad eating in my life. I was thicker but I never made it last more than a few months. I'm way too vain for letting the weight gain stick.

Right now I'm a little thick because of my summer experiment eating different foods. I hate it so I'm progressively losing the mass that I gained.

What's a "fatty"? You say above 160, but don't say how tall you are/were.

When I hit puberty, I ballooned up to 147. I am 5'5. I lost 30 pounds of that my first semester of college. I maintained a weight of about 120 effortlessly (no diet, no exercise) until the age of 25, when it started to creep up to about 125-6. It stayed there until about two years ago, when I started eating and drinking (alcohol) far too much, and went back up to 147. The second time around, more weight went to my tits than when I was in high school. I've lost most of it and I'm 130 now, but I have to watch what I eat and exercise, and still have a certain cushion for the pushin'. I don't know that I'll ever be "perfect", but then again I never was, so I don't care.

Have you looked at I plug it a lot, but it's the most sensible guide I know of. Plain old exercise with lots of resistance training and eating sensibly without deprivation.

i used to have a slammin bod, but not working out got the best of me. i only have 10 pounds to lose to get back to what i was, but toning is going to be hard

so basically, i'm saying two things. you CAN lose weight. and i'm not a skinny minnie now. you can be thick and still be smokin.

I've weighed as much as 192 lbs and I've lost fifty pounds since then.

The thing is, all those stupid magazines and such would like you to believe there's some easy way to just snap your fingers (or take a pill, or buy their machine, or use their diet plan) and you'll look like Kate Moss. It's hard work, and some people have to work harder than others, physically and psychologically.

right now i fluctuate between 150-160 and i'm right under 5ft 6in. i have really muscular legs though. as long as you feel confident you will make money (when you start dancing i mean)

and also, EAT ORGANIC. i do this, and i eat whatever i want (besides red meat of course) and i don't gain much, maybe one pound. bread gets me though.

I weighed 158 at my highest weight and was two inches shorter. (Late puberty.)

Now, I'm 5' 8" and weigh between 105-110 lbs. Now, yes, it's work for me to maintain that. I can't eat tons of crap and I have to get some activity. Not overeating, but eating what I want and not exercising, I can maintain about 120-125. I also naturally have a very good metabolism. Today I have eaten: An Indian frozen dinner, a Lean Pocket, a white mocha made with nonfat milk, and a vegetarian sub. Not starving myself, by any means, but not super indulgent.

I like the way my body looks at this weight (105-110). However, most men are generally going to be attracted to 100 to 190, depending on body type and height. What matters the most is that you're proportional and you like yourself.
"She held me close and whispered in my ear how wonderful I was. Since I'm not wonderful. I was pretty sure this was a trap. So I figured I'd better grope her as much as I could before they sprung the trap. You've got to take what you can get in this life. I read that in a magazine. So I started smearing kisses on her and pawing the front of her dress, trying to get my money's worth before somebody bashed my head in." John Swartzwelder

That's a big YES ! I don't eat ANY pasta anymore..That was pretty much a staple for me. It took a lot of retraining myself, esp. I got to Macaroni Grill or an Italian restuarant..Oh, and let's not even talk about mac and cheese ! I miss that the most. It also makes me feel down..I'd read an article about the effect that pastas, rice( not brown) & white flour have on certain women, myself included..The tomato sauce also does a number on me, that might be the same for the too. In your case it's probably water or swelling. I don't know you personally, so I can't say 100%. I'm just going by my experience.

Aww, noodles are one of my comfort foods I don't have them all that often, but when I do they are special.

And like I said earlier, I don't wear the weight well. I was buying clothing from plus sized stores for a while and just did not look right. Now that I have gone down 20lbs I look a lot better, but I am still unhappy with how I look

Wow. Thanks heaps for that, that is so me. I can't believe I never put two and two together.

I also feel down after eating it, but I'm not sure if its because I'm bloated or not.

Pasta is my current love hate relationship.

    I think I read somewhere that you're vegan/vegetarian?

it's really hard to give up carbs and be a veg. I don't even try.
