    Sad Forgetting bills

I feel kinda silly saying this but I forget my bills alot. They never send me a 'this went to collections' notice or shut off my things. For example, if my cell phone bill is due on the 19th and I forget then pay them in full on the 30th will that go negatively on my credit?

Usually you have to be 30 days late before it gets reported to your credit.

I have trouble remembering too. Using online bill pay helps, all I have to do is click a button.

I pay my cell phone bill a month late all the time, it's never affected my credit.

I am really bad about paying bills. I have been months late on my phone and they just added interest and late fees. Now it automatically gets charged to my credit card along with all my other bills and no more worries!

Monthly automatic bank authorizations are your friends!!! The only thing I can't setup for that is my utilities, HOA, and AMEX.

I send my HOA a big-ass check once every few months to tide me over.
I am constantly late paying my utility bill.
I have to write my AMEX paydate in my dayplanner so I don't forget. Fuckers won't do autopay! I guess I should do the same with Util bill.

Everything just comes out of my checking like magic, even my mortgage!

Me too. I always seem to forget to pay it. Then I'll get a past due bill with two months and pay it. It never seems to show up on my credit. I think you have to go a few months and get it reported to collections for it to go on your credit when it comes to cellphones and cable and stuff. I've also forgotten to pay my cable bill and it went about 30 days past and that was it. I've started stacking my bills right in front of me on my computer docking station so I don't forget them as much because I look at them every day.

Oh yeah, I'm bad for that. The worst is paying the interest on my student loan since I don't use the bank its from anymore because they're crooked, expensive bastards. So I have to go to bank A, withdraw the interest payment in cash, then go to Bank B and deposit it. Pain in the ass.

I bundle. My cell phones (I have 2), LAN line, and net service all come on one bill. It is called Bell Canada One Bill and it is awesome!! I am sure they must offer similar service with some providers in the USA. I don't have a utility bill (it comes with my rent), and I only have one credit card which is through my bank thus just phoning or logging on to my bank site will tell me my balance and min payment. The fewer the bills the better.

I have worked in customer service/financial care for a few different companies. Rogers, T-mobile, comcast, etc to name a few. I have spoken to many people who would say, "but I never got the bill!" well that is still not an excuse for not paying. In this day and age there are several ways to find out a balance before the bill even gets to your address. 611, *777, #BAL#, online accounts (such as my tmobile or my telus), are all ways you can find out. If in doubt call customer care and a rep will find out for you. It is best to be proactive and not passive about your bills.

I use this site to pay my AMEX, cable, and electric bills. It doesn't have everything, but it's a good stop-gap...

I've gotten so much better overall since starting Bill Pay. If you can set this up with your bank, I highly recommend it.

Yup. Bill Pay is great. I have Wells Fargo and their Bill Pay is so freakin easy. I just started using it a couple months ago. You can add any company you want even if theyre not on their list. They will mail out your payments.

Click a button and payment is sent. You can see what payments youve made to who and who hasnt been paid (ie. what bills are coming up or ones youve missed) I LOVE LOVE LOVE it and highly recommend it. Not to mention its FREE so youre saving stamp money too. LOL

^^^ probably ! Even my local credit union now offers online bill paying services for free ... and they will also mail out a payment to companies that aren't in their electronic funds transfer database.

And Audrey is absolutely correct that you'll save quite a few bucks worth of postage as well !

Check out their website. Check out USAA.com too. You should be eligible for them too. I use their BillPay among other things.

I even pay my rent with BillPay.

I use online bill pay too and it does make it a lot easier. It also helps that I actually have the money to pay my bills now.

I only have one thing automatically taken out of my account and that's my car payment. A couple other things I have repeating online payments that are usually the same amount each month, and do the rest online manually.

I just don't trust cell phone companies, cable companies, or any utility company to debit the correct amount. That probably has something to do with when my dad had autopay setup with the gas company and they took out something like $10,000 instead of $100. yeah...
