    Default Icky lip build-up

I have a problem with that annoying white build-up of... junk that sometimes appears on the my lips. Like when you use too much lip balm. Or for me, regardless of whether or not I use lip balm. I know it's not dental plaque or anything, because I take really good care of my teeth and whatnot.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with over-producing saliva? I think I am one of those people with overactive/easily squeezed salivary glands (I can lift my tongue and usually spray a bit of saliva just from lifting it ), and I constantly feel like my mouth is, well, juicy. I also have a bad habit of licking my lips too much. I've heard of people getting a kind of yeast infection in the mouth, but ewwwww I hope it's nothing like that.

How do I stop it? Or at least reduce it? I feel like I have it all the time, and it's really making me self-conscious and kind of OCD about it in public.

Usually people get this kind of build up from being dehydrated. You lick your lips a lot because they are dry and then your dried saliva builds up. Try drinking a lot of water for a couple of days and see if it goes away.

Well, I know I'm not dehydrated because I drink a ton of water. I feel like crap if I don't. I think lip-licking has just become a nervous habit of mine.

I get this from certain kinds of tooth pastes and mouth washes. Crest always does it to me. Try switching brands. It may take a few times.

Do you use a whitening toothpaste or whitestrips or anything like that? I noticed that I tend to get a white stringy residue in my mouth when I use those products.

You can kind of exfoliate your lips by putting on some lip balm and then rubbing them with a rough towel. I do that every few days or so.

You can also do it with brown sugar (wet) and a toothbrush (dry).
