    Default Do you get offended?

I find that I am more upset by people using the "N" word in a derogatory manner, which doesnt describe me in any way, shape or form, than by being called any of the nasty female terms, all of which could reasonably be used to describe me.

Also Im not really that upset when I was called nasty things due to my race/nationality (when I lived overseas), but I am if people use the "N" word in a joke or whatever.

(I call it the "N" word as I find the connotations and old usage nauseating)

Are there certain terms that you hate to hear?

It's a horrible word that will probably never go away. It doesn't help at all that the black community continues to use it in jargon/music.

No, I really don't get offended by words or names. But we're horribly un-PC in my household so probably not the best indicator.

I cringe when I hear the "n" word. I'm not offended by it though.

THe only racial remarks I really hear are "Jap" (Jewish American Princess) and "guido." Neither reflects my ethnicity and it's always said by THEM so it doesn't bother me.

I get offended when males of a certain type use the word "slut" in a derogatory manner. My brothers, typical suburban teenage males, occasionally refer to a girl as a "slut" and it really pisses me off. There is NOTHING wrong with a female enjoying or pursuing sex for its own sake, and invariably the same guys who call a girl a "slut" are just as promiscuous as the girl in question, if not more so. That double standard really pisses me off.

I hate it when people make sex jokes about animals, especially pets. It happened in a family sitcom on TV last week!!! You could hear giggle and fumbles in the bedroom and the old job of `How are you doing that? `Its not me` Oh haha its the dog` `Its was quite nice actually`.
    Made me feel sick.

ANY jokes like that, usually make me wanna punch people.

I agree with you and I'm a big fan of rap music too, however I think when people here the word used so much in lyrics they think they can use it too.

I get offended, depending on who is saying it. If I know the person really doesn't understand the meaning then I'll take the time to explain it to them..The word brings up a lot of crap for me..I remember one time when my mom was with me, someone shouted out to her " Nigger, put down that white baby !" People can be so ignorant. Same thing would happen with my dad..My family is very diverse ( I'm 11 different ethnicities and my kids are 12) and race or religion isn't a big issue for us.
It's a trip to see it is for other people.

What's funny, is not one time have I or my kids been called that when we lived in Houston..As soon as I moved us back to Ca, Nor Cal I should add, my nephew was called that so much I started to lose it !!!

Me too ! Parents are notorious for keeping that alive, guys can do whatever but, girls have to refrain from being sexual..Hell why not go back to the olden days and make young girls wear chastity belts !

I'm not black but I hate when I hear the "n" word. It's so predjudiced and 1950's. And I'll probably get shit for this one but I honestly don't like the word "stripper." I like the term "dancer." Stripper makes me feel like that describes me as a person. "Oh she's just a stripper, she won't care if I stick my finger in her ass crack."

I hate the word "c*nt". I can't even type it or say it aloud. It's just dirty. *shudder*

Word's dont offend me, stupidity does. I'm a mick, a redneck, an asshole, a prick, etc.
To me they are just words with no power. The people who use them think they have the power, the power to hurt, insult or otherwise bother us by using them in a negative way, but if I/we don't allow the words to bother us then they have lost before they begin

Racial slurs don't bother me so much anymore. I went to college in a city that was extemely racist. (Thanks, Philly!! ) It gave me a really thick skin and actually I'm quite grateful for it now. Of course, if someone called be a sp*c, wetback, n*gger, I'd be pissed, but I wouldn't let it ruin my perspective of people like it used to.

Misogynist slurs piss me off to holy hell and THEY make me fightin' mad.

I'm the one usually doing the offending.

N word doesn't bother me, even when said by ardent racists. I only answer to my name, so nobody calls me anything.

Honestly? Political correctness offends me more than almost anything else, for one big reason: I don't like government assuming I'll be bothered by something and trying to force me to change my language. Language are how thoughts are conveyed, ergo (to me) they are indirectly telling me how to think. Call me whatever you want, it's the context and the intent behind the word that gives it any meaning at all.

Stripper does take some getting used to..I prefer exotic dancer or dancer myself..I've just learned to get used to saying stripper here.

I'm offended by the N word.

I'm also offended by this "community" stuff. Like when I first moved to a big city everyone was all about getting me out in the "lesbian community" and doing fundraising for the "lgbt community." Well I went and hung out with those people and I think it's ridiculous for anyone to think that we should all be friends and be one big warm fuzzy community just because we're all gay. I mean, yeah, some of them I loved, and a lot of them I didn't, just like any random group of people. Then you start going to "lgbt events" and they want to do outreach to the "straight community," like straight people have a fucking club. I think people just need to be around the people around them and hang out with the people they like, not go be in a "community" of people "like them."

I don't get offended by the N word. I dunno, I just don't generally find words offensive.

The only stuff that offends me is toilet humour. Talking about poo or farts etc REALLY offends me, so does talking about vomit. I think it's vile and disgusting and offensive.

But cunt and slut and whore and the 'n' word don't offend me.

But that's cause I grew up in a trailer and I have no class!

I am very offended by bad words. Any of them. I hate name calling of any kind. even if it's stupid, ugly, dumbass...cunt and racial names or gay bad words like fag really offend me.

I dunno. I just see no need for name calling, ever. It's just one of my things.

I dont find the n-word offensive but occasionally I do find the people using it ofensive. I get mistaken for being white most of the time and lately it seems like a lot of white people are using this word offensively which is not something Im used to being around.
Same with any word though - nothing offends me, but sometimes peoples behaviour along side the word is unpleasant and I will tell them so.

Really you didn't like it ?? I don't understand the outreach part you're refering to..Please explain. I have to say I like the one I belong too. They do fun stuff for everyone even those with families. I think it's pretty cool, I guess they're all run differently.

Ditto here, although, I guess I shouldn't say mistaken for white..I'm that too, along with a slew of other things. It's funny though how some groups say it so freely when they think no one of another race is around .

I think that's what offends me, more than anything-people assuming you are in their cool club and they can say whatever-ist crap near you. No one's perfect, but please don't assume that because I bear some resemblance to you, that I want to talk smack about some other people.

Oh, I liked it (like ninety percent of it, anyways), I just find the *idea* of it offensive. Like I'm part of a community with some people I don't even know just because we're all gay? Or like every black person is going to vote the same because they're all part of some mysterious "black community"? Not that there aren't good groups that form around these ideas of communities, just that if you're going to lump me into some community it should be the van dwelling community, or the anarcho-primitivist community, or something that I'm all passionate about. Not something like sexual orientation or skin color, which just is what it is and doesn't really tie people together unless it's through shared oppression.

    A fucking men.

I used to not be like this, but now I have a habit of telling people off for this. The N-word makes me cringe, but I take it in context. "Whadup nigga!!" between two white guys is obviously less offensive than the "real" use of the word.
