Default Living alone seems to be eating all my money...

I do ok $ wise ( I haven't started dancing yet, I do alright from my other gig though I'm exhausted ). I've been looking at where my money goes and I think living alone is just eating it up. I haven't had roomates since age 23 ( I'm 27 now ) and I feel like it would be so odd to revert to that , but I am exhausted from the # of hours I work.

It helps that I get a great deal on rent ( I own a townhome, but rent it out and live in my smaller apt. ) .

Does anyone else feel stuck this way ? I kind of want to more back to the city ( I live in a suburb ) and just get roomates.

It's a dual income country these days.

This is why both in a couple work these days and put the kid into day care.

    Ya gotta.

Else live an incredibly spartan life.

eh, it's only dual income if you think you need an HDTV in every room of your McMansion. plenty of couples with great quality of life and often multiple kids living on one salary.

Really look at what you're spending your money on. I mean every single cent. Re-evaluate what you need and want. DVR, cable = wants. Electricity, rent, etc = needs. Know what I mean?

Then start dancing if that is what you really want to do. I couldn't afford to live on my budget right now if I wasn't dancing. I would be working 40+ hours a week making 10-12/hr to afford what I live on now. Its not even glamorous as far as just my living expenses go. The rest goes to paying stuff off and having a savings. I wouldn't be able to do that on a regular job. What I'm getting at is if you wanna dance go dance and make some good money already.

Hey Girl! Like Tiger said, look at your income and see what you're spending it on. Having roommies can be good but it can also be a hassle. But you could even do it short-term and just rent out a place for short periods of time, to travelling strippers coming from Europe who are freaking out trying to figure out what to do with their lives before all their moolah runs out. No, I'm not referring to anyone in particular.

But yeah, methinks both you and I should do less typing and more dancing

    Not really at all even.

It helps that I get a great deal on rent ( I rent , haven't bought and the low rent allows me invest a lot more money than if I would have bought ) .

Does anyone else feel stuck this way ? I kind of want to more back to Salt Lake City ( I live in a suburb ) and just get roomates.

Having roomates doesn't always = saving money.

After college, I lived alone for three years and had roomates for one. I feel like I was better off living alone not only for the freedom, but I had more control over my money and expenses. (i.e. Regular cable for free or 800 channels for $150/month? etc. etc.)

Living alone can be expensive, but it sounds like you are doing it the right way (having a great deal on rent, living in the suburbs, paying attention to your bills). Think about it.....if you move to the city with roomates, your rent likely will go up, not just because of location but obviously because you will need a bigger place (Two or three more bedrooms?) Also consider the increase in your utility bills, possibly having to rent extra parking spaces, paying someone else's share if they move out early, splitting groceries and household supplies fairly...etc.etc. If the rent and bills increase, dividing them by 2 or 3 may not make your share that much smaller
The amount of money you actually "save" may not be worth it!

I am in the same situation as you, although my rent is a tad high considering the rep of my building and the area. I live in Peterborough, ON and I pay almost $900 a month. The building I live in has a bad name to it because of the types of people who live here. Whenever I say, "I live in ____" to people who work and live around here I get horrid looks or reactions like, "I would be scared coming home at night in that building". It has a bad name to it because of the amount of junkies, dealers and psych patients who live in the building. You would think that most would not be able to afford the rents in here, but most people have roommates.

I live on my own and have done the roommate thing as well. I want to move back to the big city (Toronto), although I don't think roommates would be a good idea because of my pets.

there's also an issue of an 'informal' agreement that you and your roommates will share the cost of rent and utilities, but a legal obligation that YOU ALONE will be held responsible if the rent or utility bills aren't paid on time !!!
