Angry Pre-Teen Fashion Bully Bitches? WTF?!!

My god, people are enabling their daughters to be high society terrorists.

    [snip]

Dorothy Espelage, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, who has studied teenage behavior for 14 years, says she has seen an increase in "bullying related to clothes." She attributes that to the proliferation of designer brands and the display of labels in ads. In the more than 20 states where she has studied teens, she has been surprised by how kids revere those they perceive to have the best clothes. Having access to designer clothing affords some kids "the opportunity to become popular -- and that protects you and gives you social power and leverage over others," she says.

    Give me a fuckin' break.

I'm astounded at how little kids think they can bully ADULTS lately. Like I can go to the mall and some 11 yr old is trying to insult me to show her 'homies' how cool she is. WTF?

Yeah, I can't believe how easy it is for kids to be so disrespectful these days. Why don't people discipline their damn kids anymore?

I'm amazed at the stories my wife brings home from the school where she works. This is a problem even in elementary school!
Children will refuse to associate with other children based on how they are dressed. Very sad.
The discipline problems are unbelievable. Even in KINDERGARTEN!! - that's not just sad, it's scary.

    Viva la chancleta!

God, this is one of the many reasons why I would not repeat my teen years. Junior high kids are the most evil people in the world simply because they will do anything to gain credibility in the eyes of others and have zero regard for others. I was teased incessantly for my clothes, among many other things.

Why the hell do they make designer clothes for kids!? They're just going to outgrow them, and there are plenty of nice non-designer clothes out there!

@ "Viva la Chancleta!" I almost said something about them needing a good chancleta to the ass in the original post, too!

Anyway, you're right about making designer clothes for kids. I mean, seriously, why the hell does any teenager need some expensive couture that they a) don't know how to take care of; b) don't appreciate how much money it costs, because their narrow little minds don't know the real value of a dollar; c) are going to outgrow within 6-18 months?

I blame these fuckin' parents. They let these kids run amok and then wonder why they end up being dysfunctional people in the real world. Because they enabled them, that's why!!!

IDIOTAS!!!!!! I'm going to all the junior high schools and any kid wearing D&G, VG, Chanel, that's not well-mannered with good grades is gettin' it!!

I wore school uniforms, and they were a godsend. You get up, throw on an outfit, and go to school! Yeah, they'll find other things to accessorize, but it took out a lot of the hassle. I'd love uniforms to become mandatory like in Japan. You know, something sharp-looking like blazers and skirts.

Yeah, I'm trying to convince my mom to send my little brother and sister to private school. I have already picked up on some of their comments about who's wearing what, and I want them to be concerned with grades, extracirricular activities, and not trendy apparel.

Amen for uniforms!! We had to wear them at my Catholic high school. One thing, we weren't allowed to accessorize (no make-up, either), which was even better.

Mandatory uniforms would put an immediate halt to all of this "fashion bully" nonsense. Uniforms not only stop the bullying, but it would also ease the burden on the parents' pocketbooks.

even when i was in the ninth grade with uniforms there ws still this problem....people could tell where you got your uniforms FROM like a student wearing a blue polo from walmart as oppsed to a blue polo from abercrombie!!! there is really no way around it unless they start telling you WHERE to buy your clothes or issue them to you somehow?!?!!? also the kids who wore the same thing day after day or every other day the kids would make fun of them....i feel there is no way around it?

I had the same shit to deal with in junior high. It was worst in fifth grade; when I was about 10, I was still new to the suburbs and I already didn't fit in, and these suburban bitches would tear me to shreds every day for not getting my whole wardrobe at The Limited. They even got uptight about designer ERASERS - fuck, even a pink rubber pencil eraser wasn't good enough!

I too am a huge fan of school uniforms, and not the "blue polo" type blondi mentioned. I had to wear a uniform in high school and we got all our uniforms at the same uniform store. If your parents couldn't afford it, the school had used ones to buy for cheap. But we all wore the same damn uniform from the same damn store, and we learned to assert our individuality through (*gasp*) interests, conversation, writing, and other productive activities. And it only took five minutes to get dressed and ready in the morning. Uniforms are awesome!

I went to a catholic grammar school from 4th to 8th grade, then went to a tech school for high school. I had a uniform for grammar school and when i was in shop in high school we had to wear carpenters pants so t was a uniform of sorts. Granted I went to school way back in the day, but damn if I had no problems cuz of the uniforms. I FULLY support school uni's.
